Working in close with a "Fighting Revolver" is far safer and more reliable than with a semi-auto pistol. Some close fighting ideas using a revolver, can also be understood in terms of hand to hand need and Kyusho deployment as well. In a situation that is belly to belly (actual fighting range, not distant sparring), revolvers are better suited for this type of emergency situation.
The shrouded or internal hammer versions of the revolvers are also better within this fighting range (body on body) as at closer range the gun may be jammed back in toward your hand or body, stifling the hammer and preventing the the round from firing.

Making the right choice
With the vast selection of handguns, we must attempt to understand the area we will be visiting, the possible circumstances we could face and the proper tool for that situation.
Now Pistols are great and I own several, i even carry them occasionally (depending on what I am doing and what the environment will be). If the situation is more risky (collecting rents in a low income area where drugs and crime prevail), then carrying both is the best idea so you have capacity for longer distance and surety at close range.
Just owning a firearm is not enough
Nor is shooting at a club or range... train in special courses that teach shooting from your car, against multiple opponents, running through a parking lot or even clearing your own home. However, you should also think and train on close range combative need, where hand to hand turns weapon to weapon, or other half physical half shooting is required. If you are surprised and not prepared for that type situation, you may lose the conflict even if armed.

Self protection is becoming a very high priority with people all around the world. Look at the problems in Sweden, Germany, Austria and so many more with escalating rapes and attacks. We do not have this in the US yet, but if it does there will be a quick stop to it as more folks here are armed.
The calamity in the Florida Night Club had the Gay populace purchasing more firearms than ever before... however the real problem is that they have little training, especially panic training. They also purchase firearms they should not due to their lack of experience and training.
I have a story I will tell tomorrow.
