Leadership Plaques Humanity

in #leadership9 years ago

Every single company demands leadership skills. Seminars spring like mushrooms teaching techniques about how to be in charge and guide another group towards a goal. Some even claim that leaders are born, not made and they base it on some weird gene theory that themselves cannot demonstrate. Undoubtful, leadership is central to humanity and we are all affected by it one way another, yet very few understand the distorting impact it has in everything we do.

We are animals. We live in packs and much like other animals we always favour the one that will show strength and dominance while at the same time guide us towards a common goal. Of Course, this goes the other way too. The ones that are the most ready to cheer and follow a leader are the ones who will crucify him if something goes wrong.

We can engineer as much leadership styles as we want and groom them to look as benevolent and efficient. At the end of the day though one a pyramid of duties will form and people would have to follow through that scheme. Revolutionaries would argue that certain groups today function with each person being a leader but that is as bullshit as a woman being a little bit pregnant. Give it enough time and one person will rise at the top while everyone else trail to different duties that will range from the traditional suck-up to the one that will play it commando in order to get his way through and overthrow the leader.

The world is plagued from people, stupid people that fuck up things for the rest, yet we seem to have a constant craving, wanting more and more. Think about it. From George Bush to Clinton, Trump, Lenin, Mao, Che Guevara, Merkel and anyone else in between we see that the same mistakes repeated over and over again yet the same people are ready to vote for similar or the same scoundrels even if their parents and grandparents or themselves suffered under similar organisational schemes that involve leadership.

The equation is quite simple. People don't change and neither are their leaders. Our leaders are the sum of the democratic opinion. The average man rising and it is as evil, lazy, stupid and vicious are the average citizen. The, average normal person votes an average, normal person as their leader because they see their "wannabe self" inside of them.

As long as humans crave leaders and cannot function in groups as individuals the same mistakes will be made. The only difference is that they will have a different cultural and chronological flavor. The biggest problems of humanity are not technological, educational or even ethical. The largest hurdle we all have to face is to cut off cancerous parts of our nature that plague us from our ancient past. As long as we hesitate to take steps forward towards individualism and independent action we will eventually end up being the hairless apes that got to play with a few extra toys and then annihilated themselves.

The sad reality is most people don't want to take accountability for their actions. They need a government or figure head to blame for stuff.

That is one of the roles a leader plays. When stuff goes to hell then the followers have someone to blame.

This is just one aspect in a very complex dynamic of the leader/follower relationship though.

Nicely put. I agree on this one.

very well said.

It's amazing how few people really want to take a leadership role. But that's why there's always room at the top.

Another good post from you. I think people blindly follow some leaders because they relate to them idiologically ...I hope people will see the light and stand for what is right

I almost have nothing else to add, my thoughts are well aligned with your profound writing.

I think a person is smart... people... nah. Check this out:

its top leaders of unity....
Amazing....
Thank you and success is always for you @kyriacos...

It's the imagine if how it's suppose to be that Fu*ks us up

While the thought that you present here is intriguing - I personally feel that there are two factors that are perhaps not adequately, if at all, acknowledged.

Firstly, and most importantly, education. More specifically the quality of education. The reason why this is important is because acknowledging that the quality, or lack there-off of the education that up-and-coming generations have been getting is central to second-guessing the notion that people cannot change and cannot be leaders.

I would contend that the programing of many among us simply hasn't been suited to the development of such leadership.

The second point I'd like to make is that one of the main reasons why governments slide down the paths that they do - is due to their invariably vertical nature.

All governments (that I can think of). Even communist governments were vertical by design.

And verticality promotes alienation between the different stratas of society. The head will send the feet to do its bidding - and care little for the havoc - being removed by several degrees of separation.

Verticality also promotes the consolidation of power... so it is no accident.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts @kyriacos - they were provoking of such.

Totally agree. Collectivism is the cancer of humanity, although being what humans are, it might be the only sort of system fitted for them; at least for the masses.

That being said, I still have hope that we are moving toward individualism on a wide-scale.
