Masai ~ A MonoMad Post
I'm posting a couple of images of Masai giraffes for the daily #MonoMad photo contest created by @brumest and curated by @monochromes. The photos were taken at the Santa Barbara Zoo in Southern California. Since 2012, seven Masai giraffes have been born at the zoo. If I'm correct, the first image is of Audrey, who is pregnant and due in July 2020.
The second image is of Michael, who arrived from Parc Safari in Quebec, Canada in December 2011. Since his arrival at the zoo, he has sired seven calves. Michael is considered North America’s most genetically valuable male Masai giraffe.
The bumps on Michael's face are made of calcium deposits, typical of male giraffes. Both male and female giraffes have “ossicones,” the horn-like growths on top of the skull.

Thanks eSteem. I really appreciate the support.
Thanx Pix!
What cool shots of them, they are pretty amazing animals ot watch with those super long necks
Thanks. I haven’t fed these yet but we used to feed the giraffes at the Colorado Springs zoo. I really like them. This zoo had a giraffe with a crooked neck. It was born normal and the bend formed later. It died, and I think the bones are on display somewhere.
I have never fed them anywhere, Maybe I should add this to me to do list ;)
You have to feed them. They come right up to you. My wife in Colorado:

That is such a cool shot I must try that someday :)
Those are beautiful shots! I haven't been to a zoo in many years. Maybe I should go visit one.
We enjoy it. We tend to become zoo members so we can get in on the special events. This time we went on the spur of the moment, but brought a picnic lunch and had a great time.
Congratulations. Today's #monomad third place is yours. Thank You very much for participating.
Thank you very much. I very much appreciate that.
