SEC-S10W5 – My favorite place
☀️What and how is your favorite place?☀️
My favorite place is the island of Djerba where I visit almost every 4 years since my childhood. Already, because it is very affordable destination in terms of price and above all because we are sure to have good weather. The ideal sunny and inexpensive destination for the summer!
Djerba is simply magnificent. There are no other words to simply describe it. With its decorative coconut trees and palm groves, its endless beaches and its landscape that is both calm and relaxing, it seduced me on the first visits. Almost all the hotels are erected in a haven of pure vegetation where it is always good to linger. The fauna and flora, as nature intended, meet beautifully in Djerba. Comparing it to the Garden of Eden would perhaps be a little too advanced, or not, it depends.
Djerba remains, in my opinion, a favorite place for total rest with family or couple. And it is surely not for nothing that it is one of the most popular tourist destinations. The beaches are not far from the places of residence. This allows a quick and easy round trip. At the same time, various animations take place on the edge in order to spice up the tropical atmosphere already strongly pronounced in this region.
☀️What makes it so special?☀️
Nicknamed by Flaubert "the island of dreams" thanks to its mild air, its sun and its sweetness of life, Djerba still has the same effect on its visitors today. Its very pleasant climate and its pretty beaches make it one of the most popular seaside destinations in the country. But not only. Because leaving the tourist coasts, we discover territories still largely preserved, where olive groves alternate with small villages with white facades and meadows criss-crossed by herds of goats. A one-of-a-kind island which, despite the influx of tourists, has managed to preserve its authentic and timeless character.
Going on vacation in Djerba with the family means of course enjoying heavenly beaches, renowned among the most beautiful in Tunisia on the Mediterranean coast. Big program for relaxation, sun and swimming... but not only! The Tunisian island, the largest in North Africa, offers many advantages for traveling parents. A trip to Djerba with children is also an opportunity to experience great family adventures: you can go on foot, horse or camel rides, practice water activities, make visits to discover the Djerba heritage, safaris in the desert or even a pirate ship cruise!
☀️What do you do when you are in your favorite place?☀️
I visited Houmt Souk
Houmt Souk is the capital of the island of Djerba. It lies north of the latter. Houmt Souk is famous for its many souks (fabrics, spices, pottery, etc.), busy shopping streets and typical Tunisian architecture. You will also find many mosques there, all of which are different from each other. Do not hesitate to visit them, you will be surprised by their special styles. Early in the morning, it is very pleasant to enjoy a good squeezed juice while admiring the sunrise in almost complete silence in one of the city's cafes.
I visited Guellala Museum
The area is famous for pottery. It is the village of Guellala in particular that has made it possible to gain such a good reputation in this area. There are vases, jugs and other small artefacts which are then sold in the Houmt Souk market.
There is also a museum, which is the most important museum to see in Djerba. Indeed, if you want to know the daily life of the residents and their traditions, this is the place to visit. You will learn about many topics.
For example, you may be wondering why do oriental brides change their dresses 7 times during their wedding ceremony? Visit this museum and you will get the answer! You will discover many scenes of life in traditional clothes. The little extra part of this museum is also its wonderful garden where you can rest in peace.
I visited a Ghriba synagogue
The Ghriba Synagogue is one of the most important sights to see in Djerba. In fact, this synagogue is home to one of the last Jewish communities in the Arab world. Many visitors go there every year to enjoy the beauty of this majestic building. It remains the most beautiful indoor scene. To enter, you have to go through a security gate and cover your head and shoulders. It is very important to respect these customs in this sacred place. Once inside, you will be amazed at the spirituality of the place. You will listen to the Jewish songs of the rabbis while admiring the opulent colors of this synagogue.
I walked on the beaches of Djerba
If you are more attracted to the beaches, know that Djerba has vast expanses of almost pure white sand. Along these beaches are magnificent palm trees. It is these Mediterranean plants that make the most impression. There is no doubt that Polynesia is in the Mediterranean!
Did you know that the beaches of Djerba are considered the most beautiful on the African continent? In fact, you wouldn't be able to go to this island without spending a few hours relaxing on the warm sand in an idyllic setting.
I toured Djerba Hood
Djerba Hood is much more than a "graffiti gallery"...it is a true Mecca of street art with its soul and character. But it is also an incredible human adventure, one that has made it possible to connect the locals with something completely new, which was above all a game-changer by reviving tourism in Riyadh, where visitors now flock from all over the world. But some fear that the business will collapse over time ... Rest assured, Djerba Hood is a living museum that will remain constantly evolving!
☀️In a brief summary tell us a memory or anecdote in that place.☀️
For my last day of travel, I absolutely wanted to bring back a souvenir from there. The last day while bathing at the beach, I come across a starfish and I think I could take it and display it in my room. So I take her to the hotel, the crazy in a bag that I then hide in my bag. But I hadn't thought it would reek of dead fish after a few minutes. The next day, while I'm on a bus on my way back, I realize that a disgusting smell is emanating from my bag.
Despite everything, I pass the controls without incident and on a big stroke of luck because the previous passenger is searched but not me. But my bag stinks so much that I have to hide it in a compartment away from my seat. Passengers had to live for the duration of the flight with a smell of corpses that had spread throughout the cabin and I saw the stewardesses going back and forth trying to find where it came from, It was funny. I still have that starfish by the way for a while.
