Hi steemians,

I hope you are doing well and having a good day.

Today, I am delighted to offer you a visit that I made yesterday to Djerbahood located in a small town on the island of Djerba, known and recognized for its street-art.

Here is a guided tour in the heart of Tunisian street art.

This city is named in Arabic Erriadh, meaning "little district". This city, (which I would call a village) south of Houmt Souk, in the center of the island of Djerba, is full of works of art. I had to dedicate an article to it.

The walls of the houses were covered with frescoes as part of Operation Djerbahood which was initiated at the end of 2013.

It is an urban art event during which artists from all over the world have invested Erriadh to create more than 300 works.

The works presented in this article are 1/10 of those I have been able to discover and this is what makes the richness and interest of this constantly evolving street art.

Different techniques are used, paint, spray, tiling, pottery, all in a natural scenography of play of shadows and lights.

The quality of the works is breathtaking when they are freely accessible, in the face of natural and human aggressions. The size varies according to the works and the techniques used. Some are impressive by the emotion they provide, their detail, their size...

The strength of messages

Like any work, these street creations have several readings... through our filters and our sensitivity, everyone appropriates them differently and makes ONE story out of them. As long as we look at the details, a "beautiful" representation hides a strong symbolic message!

Here the artist offers us in this creation an overview of the culture, the work and the fragility of the Tunisians. These are placed at the center of the work to offer us a colorful picture that reflects their customs and their history.

This woman deploys all her strength towards freedom.

Is it a simple traveler or a man who flees the war.

This work on a human scale overwhelms me… This artist transmits all the suffering and the weight of war. These works of great delicacy show his commitment to the people. They also take on their full meaning with the war in Ukraine.

During the visit, I was alone in the world, as you can see in the photos. The month of November is really conducive to the visit because you can appreciate the works without being rushed…

I met only a few tourists who came to discover this urban art. All the works are "well" preserved. There is little degradation, this street art is respected despite the fact that it can be touched.

Djerbahood is also doors...

Of all colors, shapes, decorated with care, the doors are also true works of art. They punctuate the streets with touches of color.

Tunisian blue, close to majorelle blue, is omnipresent and echoes the sky. A few touches of bougainvillea warm up this very pretty cold color.

And at the bend of a street... a cat welcomes us in its own place, the smallest and undoubtedly the most charming of Djerbahood, A place for two, a Tunisian cocoon.

Erriadh, a village to discover absolutely

Whether one is sensitive to art or not, one cannot remain indifferent. Whether we appreciate the works for their beauty, their message, their symbolism, Erriadh is worth the detour!

It is also an opportunity to discover many artists of all nationalities.

Strolling through this village and discovering the frescoes, doors and small alleys is an incredible experience, accessible to everyone.

I hope this article has allowed you to discover Erriadh and its street art and will make you want to visit this village.

Have you ever heard of Erriadh? Did you enjoy this visit?

I embrace you and wish you an excellent day.

Best Regards,

Hi @kouba01

Simply beautiful.

I feel impressed with the genius of this urban art. The artist fused realism with great modern design, it's really incredible, I don't know how to explain it.

This town is extremely colorful, excellent for tourism.

The photos of the doors are exquisite. In the historic center of the city where I live, you can also find doors with an old design, but they don't look like these. Honestly, I like the one from your country better.

Thank you for giving us this beautiful tour of these unique places.

In another order of ideas, please, allow me to take an opportunity to invite you to an interesting initiative aiming to PROMOTE STEEM blockchain:
