Crimson Kiwi!

Good evening, good morning and good day to all of you. I’m closing out what feels like a long, stressful, endless day. I’m not sure why I’ve been so fatigued. I slept in longer than usual and I slept well. Winter is 100% here in Minnesota, and that’s usually something I’m okay with. This year, though, it feels like it’s encroaching much earlier than usual. The 20º days are 4:30p.m. nightfalls are already upon us. It’s disrupting my routine. I’ve been having to fight to stay up past midnight to finish edits and writing.

I’m back on this sprint of New Zealand and Australian edits. Hard to believe these were some of my most recent shoots of 2019. The photos tonight are from a shoot in Auckland. I’m reflecting on that trip a lot lately. Not sure why. In some ways it felt like the closing of a chapter and if that’s the case, what an ending! Shooting with Miss Victory Violet, I met Wendy, one of several models we’d shot that afternoon at Shanghai Lils’. This was Wendy’s first professional shoot, so she was nervous at the beginning.

Almost 2/3’s of my clients are first time models, so I explained to Wendy that I’d be directing most of what we did together. The interior design of Shanghai Lils’ was breathtaking, and while shooting, the owner arrived and shared with me that it was the set from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon! Miss Victory Violet did an incredible job on Wendy’s hair and make-up and 20 or so minutes in to shooting, Wendy really relaxed and found her rhythm. I adore these portraits.

This was the first set of edits with Wendy in Auckland and I’ll be working on another batch in the coming weeks. Tomorrow, I have to get back to a few sessions in Melbourne, find time for writing and illustration as well. I’m feeling overwhelmed but doing my best. It’s both rewarding and crushing, but I’d rather be doing too much than nothing at all. Thanks for reading and following my blog here on Steemit.
