Steem is the most active blockchain
One of the things I love about steem is how much of an active and working blockchain it is.

Some may even argue that because of such tx volume, it should be more valuable than bitcoin, after all it has 4 times as many transactions.
The market however sees this differently. It values bitcoin transactions much higher than steem transactions.
Apples and Oranges
I don't think just counting transactions to determine value makes sense. This would be like saying companies should be valued according to products shipped. They do this in the automotive market and I find it utterly unfair. A Mercedes is quite a different thing than a Toyota and an S-Class quite something else than an A-class.
So comparing a bitcoin transaction to a steem transaction is not fair. Most tx on steem will be sending some text to the blockchain while bitcoin transactions are sending high amounts of value around. Hence bitcoin transactions are more valuable.
As such I don't think it makes sense to derive value from the transaction volume across blockchains.
Apples to Apples
Within a blockckchain however it does make sense to look at transaction growth. So if transactions within steem are growing, then this is a good thing. Same for bitcoin. Also if the price grows but transactions do not, then this is probably a sign for imbalance.
We can be proud that steem is the blockchain with the highest amount of transactions. If we want to compare it to bitcoin then it would be better to look at something like a transaction amount transacted per day or month.
Steem gonna surpass facebook marketcap and it will be no. 1 social networking site due its model in which everyone is a winner be the creator, or developer or user.
I agree with you that the Steem is becoming increasingly popular not only as an investment, but also as an indicator of transactions in the network. Exactly what attracts users is the lack of comissions and indicator scalability. Thank you @knircky
Steem and also BitShares are incredibly fast. I use both extensively. I almost forgot a 4 day waiting for my last Bitcoin transaction to confirm, just to be angry about fee at the end. Bitcoin sucks! He have only a adoption and first mover advantage. I trade BTC now on BitShares DEX.

The main reason that Steem currently has the highest tx volume, is because the technology behind it enables it to do so. It makes the utility to be uttermost effective. That is also why once EOS is launched it could very easily be taken off first place. Nonetheless, blocktivity combined with the CUI does very clearly show whom has the best shot of sustaining in the long run (Steemit + Bitshares).
Yeah the Holy Trinity Steem, BitShares and EOS is a new religion. I own all three of them.

Yeah, Using Steem for free is privilege. Also fees on BitShares exchange are microscopic.
