Night Mare

It seems every time I shoot star trails I stick to a recipe of facing south and shooting wide. So I thought I'd change things up a little. So for this shot of Horse Head Rock I shot more zoomed in (35mm, still wide but at the limit of my 16-35mm lens) and I faced east to ignore the SCP. I'm very happy with the result and I just might start doing it more often.

that's an epic picture there... wow.. may i ask what is 117 star exposures?? sorry newbs here...

In order to get the movement of the stars, a common technique is to take multiple long exposures, 117 30sec exposures in this case, then stack them together in Photoshop so only the movement of the Earth/stars blends through. Instead of having a single 1hr long exposure which could cause a lot of issues for the final image

ahh... so 117 times taking shot of 30 minutes for each photos then... make more sense... thank you for the explanation there sir...

30 seconds for each shot! All up a little over an hour of shooting

Wow, amazing capture! I love star trails!

Thank you very much!

That's OK I guess. Resteemable, I suppose. ;)

Thanks a bunch!

Epic shot. I like this a lot more than the direct south looking star trails. Did you light paint the rock at all or is that just moonlight/blue hour blend?

It's a shot from blue hour. no stars in the sky but after sunset...so I guess literally no visible stars in the sky

Nice. I like it. Like the tones. It is on the list of places to explore next year when I am back for a while.

Great work and patiente!! Admiritive work!! Congratulations once more! :)

Thank you very much!
