Into the Holiday spirit 2017

in #life9 years ago (edited)

This time of the year again... For the first time in my life, I haven't celebrated Christmas in my home. LOL, I guess it was now time to try something new.
We traveled on December 23rd to London, or more specific to Hampton Hill, outside London.

My sister lives there with her husband and son. We are four people so her home was filled with people during 2017 Christmas Holidays.

A calm Christmas Eve

This day in Sweden we actually celebrate Christmas... For my kids, this was a different experience, not celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve.

We went to Richmond for some coffee and we also visited the pub... My girls bought a few things on sale and all of us went into a Christmas mood. A calm day ended up with some Christmas Linguini for dinner.

Christmas day -learning new jokes

Every Christmas day, people where my sister lives visits their local pub to wish everyone Merry Christmas. So did we as well! This was a nice experience, families from the area were gathering at the pub for a few hours and we had a couple of drinks together.

Another tradition in the UK (and other countries) is Christmas crackers... They contains a paper crown, some FUNNY joke, and some small toy. We cracked these during Christmas dinner on Christmas day.
Here are some of the hilarious funny jokes we found:

What do you call a broke Santa?
-It's Saint Nickel-less!

What song do you sing at a snowman's birthday party?
-Freeze a jolly good fellow!

Why did the turkey join the band?
-Because he had the drumsticks!

And so on... I enjoyed this tradition a lot. I love this kind of (bad?) joke. This tradition was new to me, really funny!

Here is a photo of our table before the dinner took place:

We had lots of great food like Yorkshire pudding, Turkey, lamb, roasted potatoes and Trifle for dessert. I have never eaten this much in my entire life.

A wonderful day with many laughs and nice people. This was a joyful Christmas.

Walking on Boxing day

On Boxing day we all went for a long walk. We went to Teddington through Bushy Park.

Bushy Park

This Park is a Royal Park and it's huge.
We went into Bushy Park for a stroll, and then we went out to visit Teddington for a lunch break. The weather was rather nice and a lot of people were walking in the park.
Winter in England is rather nice, +10°C and partly sunny.

One of the nice things in this park this:

Teddington

Teddington is a small town that belongs to London. It's rather picturesque and we had lunch in a local pub. We were not alone in that pub... Many places were closed on boxing day, which means, more people in the places that actually were open.

This day brought a lot of walking which felt really good after all the food we had eaten.

Back home

Now we are back home and the Christmas has passed. It was some cheerful days with a lot of Christmas spirit. I feel happy and I look forward to going back next year :-)
Unfortunately, I haven't taken many photos, but I took myself some time off and enjoyed instead of trying to capture it all in pictures. The quality of the above street photo is not good, it's taken with my old iPhone 5s. But it suits this post and shows a part of Teddington.
