Great Lakes Or Bust
After a day in Winnipeg to recover, we managed to get back on the road again. I've been very ill, but I have recovered at a little.
Two more days of hard driving have brought us into Ontario, and all the way around the north shore of Lake Superior. I'm exhausted but I wanted to check in tonight with a few photos. Tomorrow we should arrive at our son's cottage near Parry Sound, Ontario. I will have no interent connection for several days - that might be a pleasant change!
North Western Ontario - still looks like prairies in places.
It was quite smokey on the west end of Lake Superior. We wore our masks in the car today, and they provided some relief.
The wildlife are quite friendly here - this moose just wants a coke.
Late in the afternoon on the eastern shore of Lake Superior. The air is clear here, thank goodness! We still had a hundred kilometers to go to reach Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario - across the bridge from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. If we had been clever enough to renew our passports, I could reach my Dad's house in six hours by taking a short cut through Michigan.
I know most of my readers will have no idea where any of these places are... To give some scale to the map, that's a 3,800 km trip so far, or roughly 2,400 miles.
Thanks for following along so far. I'm sorry I can't reply to comments as I can no longer see straight... I'll reconnect with you all in a few days.
6 hours to your dad. 7 hours to me! You have inspired me to get mine renewed.Hope when you get to your son's you can recuperate!
That would have been so nice, Melinda, and I appreciate the offer!
So those stereotypical roadside stop offs with the stuffed moose exist? I love it. Prior to joining Steemit, when I considered travel I was thinking off of my own continent. For some reason Canada was never on the radar. Now I'm really curious to take a cross continent trip too...although mine might be a bit dramatic with heading from the southern tip straight north.
Lovely pictures as always.
Stuffed??? I could swear that thing winked at me :) There has been some drama - like yesterday when an accident closed the trans-Canada highway in both directions, and we took a long, long back-roads detour through towns like Sioux Lookout and Silver Dollar, only to finally rejoin the highway three hours later, just on the other side of the road closure, which was still in effect.
Ok... maybe that's not drama, just some more misery I had to share! When you take your trip will you start in South America? I know someone doing that trip by bicycle!
No, Florida - I'm not that crazy. Actually, I'm not sure if I'm even crazy enough to drive from Florida that far. I'd probably cross the boarder, say something like "we made it", and then head back home. :)
If only there was no time constraints, or illnesses, or anything of the sort, and you could enjoy those detours into the little towns. I'm sure that blinking moose would have posed for a picture with you if you asked nicely.
I'm not most of your reader, I know where you are 😀!
I'm glad you're feeling better and the smoke is mostly gone. Enjoy your holiday and get back to us whenever you can. :)
Thank you, Erika! I hope the cottage is ok. There is a fire burning in Parry Sound - Parry Sound #33, burning since July but contained - which means it isn't getting bigger but it isn't out.
Now I realize how lucky I am. We don't have that kind of thing here.
Anyway, stay safe and I hope your trip back is not going to make you sick again.
Have fun and stay well Keith!
Thank you Dave. About to hit the road again - something like 460 km to go.
So jealous!!! I need to be there now!

I have to say, I smell smoke this morning. Just a little. I don't know which way to go to get out of it!
🙁
Wow! That's a looooonggg way! Sorry you're not at top health... When I first saw your post, I thought - nice... another long road trip! I always remember the earlier one you did some time back... :) Your views at the lake are superior... lol (hehe, couldn't help that!)
Hi AC, well this is about the fourth time I've done this, and I wouldn't do it like this again. Now... driving a nice fully loaded camper van, that could be different!
Blimey. the longer this goes on the less like a holiday this sounds to me@keithboone . You certainly need a real holiday to recover form this one!
I sincerely hope you arrive at your son's cottage soon so you can recouperate.
Wishing you some relaxing and enjoyable times ahead. 😊
If we can get to that damn lake today, I may yet survive this. Quite ill again today unfortunately. Fingers crossed, and I'm about to fill the gas tank one more time!
Thank you @pixresteemer!
I am just reading this now, so I am guessing you don;t have an internet, by now. Nevertheless, welcome in Ontario Keith I am glad you made it. Beautiful photos 🌸😊🌸
