Hack Your Reading (PROVEN TIPS TO SPEED READ)

in #life10 years ago

Lets be honest, Reading can be BORING!
Speed reading can help you read through boring books quicker, So you can enjoy the books you want to read! Speed reading takes practice, but it's a useful skill.

Use a pointer

It’s difficult for your eyes to stay fixed in one spot while reading. They are always darting to gather brief bits of information. Using a pointer will guide you along the text so that you can retain it faster.
It's easy for your eyes to go all over the page, Grabbing bits of the text. This is where pointers come in. You can use your a bookmark as a pointer. Or of course use your finger.
This will slow down your reading at first, But it will help you speed it up over time.

Speed reading is more about control

Speed reading isn't only about improving the speed of your ability to read.
Many people like to point out that speed reading reduces one’s ability to concentrate or digest information. However, speed reading is not only about increasing the speed at which you can read, but also improving your ability to understand what you are reading.
Controlling your speed in such a way that you become a more efficient reader at the same time. The control allows you to breeze through prominent pieces of information and slow down so that you can carefully read confusing bits of information.

Avoid subvocalizing

It’s a common habit for people to speak out loud when first learning how to read. You may see children doing it all the time, While they are learning and getting the hang of it.

People usually stop doing this, Because it slows down their ability to read faster. Although many people still have a tendency to speak the words out loud. This is known as subvocalizing. While it does give a better understanding of the narrative, you don’t need to subvocalize to understand every bit of a sentence. Being able to read without subvocalizing will help you gradually improve your reading speed. Learn to move your pointer faster than you can subvocalize.

Know when to slow down

As previously mentioned, speed reading is more about control. It’s important to know when you need to slow down, as you will come across information that requires more time to digest or understand. Think of speed reading like driving a car. It’s okay to accelerate your car if you are on a straight, well-maintained highway. But you will be forced to slow down when you come to a curvy road.

Start speed reading now so that you can devour more books in your day. I've been practicing this a while, And I can polish off tons of articles and books. We only have 24 hours in a day! And We need to take advantage of it. Speed reading will help you do that.

I just sped-read this article :) I first use the sub-headings for the big ideas, then topic sentences for the main idea of each paragraph, and then skim and scan it for the general gist.... cheers

Heheh same here! I've heard of that method!

I use this method when preparing students to take academic reading exams. These situations usually require them to find the information quickly but be accurate at the same time.

So true! I always hated those tests. I'd get bored after a while because the reading wasn't very interesting.

What the heck!? That is so weird Asmolokalo!
That would be cool to have a reader helper Maybe they can add that later.
