Summer in Cornwall

in #cornwall7 years ago (edited)

This summer, like every summer, I headed to Cornwall. Only this time I would stay for two and a half months instead of my usual two to three weeks. I was lucky enough to take a job in my favourite county, and I couldn't be more excited.

As soon as I had emptied my things into my tent I made a bee line for Newquay town centre. With some of the best beaches for surfing and a lively, thriving town centre, what's not to love about Newquay.

Every morning I woke up to my favourite view: the Gull rocks. These can be found down on Holywell Bay beach (about 500 metres out to sea) and are registered under the national trust. For me, they are iconic of the area and of my memories of this fantastic place.

As a massive water baby, some of my favourite pastimes down in Cornwall have to be surfing and bodyboarding. After taking a break for the past through years due to illness I was thrilled to get a chance to get back in the water this summer.

Truro is the 7th smallest British city and the furthest south on the mainland. As the only city in the whole county, Truro is a hub for commerce and leisure with many brands having their only Cornish stores here. The cathedral is the biggest feature of this tiny city and really stands out as a landmark.

An annual trip to St Ives led to this stunning photo to be taken at the end of the day. After sampling some of the finest restaurants St Ives has to offer over the years (and there are many) we usually wander around the shops looking for unique items to collect as souvenirs, and we always find something!

Another annual family tradition is a day trip to Padstow where we eat fish and chips and Rick Stein's restaurant and then go for a ride on the speed boat. This years trip was made especially memorable as my grandad managed to come down for a week for the first time in over 10 years. This was fantastic and I really valued the time I got to spend with him.

A good summer holiday is never complete with ice cream, and I can honestly say that Callestick Farm offer the best ice cream in the South West. We always make an effort to visit the ice cream farm and trying the many flavours on offer!

Cornwall is a fantastic county with some of the most beautiful beaches and picturesque views you can find, and I feel so lucky that I spent my summer situated in this stunning place and surrounded by amazing people. Scenes like this when I was either getting up for the early shift or getting to bed from the late one definitely made it worthwhile!
