Leaving FacebooksteemCreated with Sketch.

in #facebook9 years ago (edited)

When You haven't been on Facebook for some years the whole things starts to fade and all the fear of missing out hath melted like snow in the glance of the Lord! (or has it vanished like an old oak table?)

Anyway... I still know exactly when, because it was a month after the Snowden revelations. I was, I must admit, rather annoyed with the whole thing and as it often happens with annoyed persons they become indignant - and then maybe not quite as often they make some propaganda drawings.

Facebook should have been about connecting people on a personal level. The shit has started with Facebook for business, pages and ads. It wasn't their territory, but they wanted to conquer more. And they managed it, killing blogs and free speech in the process.

Seems I am not the only one that have become indignant :)

Sure. And now, when Facebook starts dying, all that was built off it starts dying too. That's why it's time to build from scratch.

Sadly, if they go bankrupt all the data about people will be part of, and the most valuable part of the bankrupt estate and will be sold of to... yea, who?

I have been thinking also to leave from Facebook, but that's at the moment my only way to keep some people in my reach :/ and that's kinda bad for me.

Yes, that is a very common thing. I moved my whole family to Diaspora to be able to keep in touch, but it was hard work. For some bizarre reason people trust corporations more than humans.

I f_cking hate facebook! I am stuck on it because my family is old school like that and can only seem to contact me using it. Sigh

I moved them all to Diaspora which is better for private matters. But I admit it took some time! people are very conservative and sceptical of anything that is not bland and boring mainstream.

But now it has worked fine for four years, and has become a bit of an institution. If you want to see the newborn babies or who was to dinner where it is on Diaspora.

In still have my account, but I'm almost never there!

Maybe close to take the step then? I have heard the same from many people, and I always ask why they are there at all if they do not use it. When I left I remember feeling a bit worried if I would leave something essential, and I think most people have that feeling much stronger than me. I have sailed away from everything quite a few times in my life.

Facebook was a great tool for the social interaction of people in the beginning of this information revolution. But now, I believe it has outlived it's usefulness. The appeal of Facebook will lose it's followers, once the posters realize there are other alternatives. One of the best, of course, is Steemit.
We are growing and Facebook will stall in growth.

Yes, the concept of social media is fine and good. It's just choosing what you want to have underneath. A spying machine like Facebook, or a blockchain.

@katharsisdrill
Good reply. The obvious answer is "blockchain". The growing numbers of our Steemit is reflecting your premise clearly.
Thank you for your upvote and reply. I appreciate it.

I've been leaving Facebook for quite a while already. This social network looks more like a sect than anything else. I hate Facebook

Comparing my visits to Facebook with now... I'm leaving Facebook little by little.
Thanks for sharing

@katharsisdrill

All is turbid on FB.

Yes, the size and the commercialisation have, I guess made it pretty turbid lately.

I prefer to be here and not in facebook.
