💡 5 ways to improve your body language 💡

in #love7 years ago

Body language can communicate and tell someone so much about you. The way you carry yourself can tell a person if you are confident, in a good or bad mood, hesitant, excited, etc. Being self aware of your body language and others can help you present yourself in the best light and better read other people’s intentions. Here are a couple ways to improve your body language.

#1: Don’t cross your arms and legs
Crossing your arms and legs may make you come off defensive and not approachable. Instead, try keeping your arms open and legs uncrossed.

#2: Maintain eye contact
It is important to look at someone when they are talking to you to help create a better connection. When you avoid eye contact, you may come off insecure. While it is important to have eye contact, it is also important to not stare, as you do not want to make the other person feel uncomfortable.

#3. Give non verbal signals of approval
When someone is talking to you, it helps to give little nods. It is a signal to others that you agree and are paying attention.

#4. Lean in
If you want to show interest in a conversation lean in. Not only does it show the person that you care, but it also shows them that you are a confident person.

#5. Mirror the other person’s body language
Often when we are connecting well with someone, we will naturally mirror the other person’s body language. To help maintain a good connection, try mirroring what the other person is doing. If the person is leaning forward, you should also try to lean towards them.

Every one of these points is absolutely essential.

I would add that maintaining strong posture reflects that you feel capable of handling the situation. Of course our posture should not be rigid and robotic, just using your full stature without appearing pompous.

ahh that's a great tip! Thank you for sharing. No slouching!

Glad you consider that added suggestion beneficial. When I was in high school, my last two years were at a military prep school. I became very aware of my posture then, and have paid close attention to it ever since.

As a professional speaker and seminar director, posture awareness has been very valuable for me when I stand to address an audience.

Thanks for continuing to post useful recommendations!
