Wednesday Walk: Nongkhai railway station, สถานีรถไฟหนองคาย

This is my entry for #wednesdaywalk hosted by @tattoodjay. The night train from Bangkok arrived only half an hour late at Nongkhai railway station.

It’s low season so there were less than ten tourists on the train. During the high season, many tourists come to Nongkhai by train in order to cross over the bridge to Laos.

I like to travel by train, especially the sleeper-train. Some people might find it hard sleeping on the train, but this new air-conditioned train is very comfortable. The early morning atmosphere at the train station is very refreshing and strangely peaceful after all the passengers have left the platform.

This is quite a new railway station, opened for operation in March 2009. They had to scrap the two previous smaller stations so that this latest one could make it possible for trains connecting to Vientiane via the new bridge. This station is where the high speed trains from China will come all the way through Vientiane into Thailand!

So, Nongkhai railway station will see a lot of activities in the future! That’s why the land prices have been doubling! My friends who had been to stay in Nongkhai all wanted to buy either a house or a piece of land. So, I have been checking both houses and land for them. One friend sees lots of business opportunity and wants to establish an accounting and management consultancy firm in two years’ time. Meanwhile I really have to get serious with learning Chinese language.

รถไฟจากสถานีหัวลำโพงมาถึง สถานีหนองคายสายไปเพียงสามสิบนาที เรียกได้ว่าทำเวลาดีมากเพราะต้องหยุดรอทางหลายครั้ง บรรยากาศที่สถานีก็ดีมาก ไม่วุ่นวายและสงบเงียบในเวลาที่ผู้โดยสารขึ้นรถไปบ้านและโรงแรมกันหมดแล้ว เราจึงชอบนั่งเงียบๆมองดูสถาพแวดล้อมที่เขียวและสดชื่น ก่อนเรียกรถไปที่บ้านสวน ช่วงนี้ที่นี่เงียบเหงาเพราะไม่ค่อยมีนักท่องเที่ยวเดินทางมาไทยเพื่อข้ามไปลาว คนขับรถรับจ้างก็หากินลำบากหน่อย

ในอนาคตที่นี่คงจะวุ่นวายมาก เพราะรถไฟความเร็วสูงจากจีนจะวิ่งผ่านลาวเข้ามาในประเทศไทยที่หนองคาย ที่ดินมีราคาสูงขึ้นมาก เพื่อนที่มาเที่ยวหนองคายสามคนต่างวาระ ก็อยากมาอยู่หลังเกษียรเพื่อพักผ่อน และทำธุระกิจเอง เราก็เลยข่วยไปดูบ้านและที่ดินให้เพื่อน เพื่อนคนหนึ่งมองเห็นลู่ทางทำเงินโดยเขาจะเปิดบริษัทตรวจสอบบัญชีและที่ปรึกษาทางธุรกิจ เราก็คิดว่าถ้าไม่ขี้เกียจคงหางานทำให้มีรายได้พิเศษบ้างในอนาคต ตอนนี้ต้องรวบรวมพลังหาเวลาสานต่อ การเรียนภาษาจีนด้วย เราคิดว่าภาษาจีนจะช่วยเราได้มากต่อไป

หนองคายไม่มีปัญหาเรื่องน้ำใช้ เพราะอยู่ติดแม่นํ้าโขง และที่นี่มีนํ้าใต้ดินสำรองมากมาย ที่นี่ไม่มีภัยจากไฟป่าและแผ่นดินไหว ที่นี่ใช้ไฟฟ้าจากลาวซึ่งมีเหลือเฟือ แต่ถ้าหากเกิดสงครามย่อยๆขึ้นในตะวันออกกลาง ก็อยู่แบบเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงได้ มีไม้ฟืนและชาวบ้านเผาถ่านใช้เอง มีข้าวที่ชาวบ้านปลูกไว้กินและมีพืช ผักผลไม้มากมาย สามารถแลกเปลี่ยนกันได้ เราสามารถถีบจักรยานไปได้ทั่วเมืองด้วย
