Japan Photo Blog, Vol. 61 - 言葉に表せない - Impressions from a late night walk home.

言葉に表せない

kotoba ni arawasenai. “ineffable, inexpressible”

I walked home through a part of to n where not many people from the city regularly go, save those who live there, or are just driving through. The moon was full, and there was a ring (not done justice by the photo below) of light surrounding it, the circumference of which seemed to spread for miles and miles across the sky.

Walking through the darkened alleys and streets, coming to dead ends to find abandoned buildings looming ominous with gaping black entrances, seeming to house entities I was not yet prepared to meet, I felt equal parts fascinated and apprehensive. The feeling was almost eerie.

The moon, the randomly lit aparment windows and sense of consciousness still aware in the sleeping, darkened night. Books and video cassettes piled high against glass, backlit by a soft, orange glowing light, obscuring second-floor windows. Tiny alleys. Buddhist temples. Massive factories and strange figures passing by. A cop using his loudspeaker to address me as I jaywalk across an empty street..

Yo Graham, followed you bro.
I know what you are talking about. Even in my close neighborhood I still can find those small back alleys, sometimes dead end, I never bothered walking through. Sometimes it creates a little gloomy or even mysterious atmosphere, especially if they become so narrow that you could touch both sides with both your arms stretched out. And it feels as time stands still...

Great to see you on here, man.

And it feels as time stands still...

That's it!

Great post. I love it!

I often do the same. I just take walks somewhere randomly and snap photos of my walk for a photo post. Unfortunately I usually then don't post the photos anywhere like I had intended, but the process is still fun.

Niigata is one of the few places I haven't yet been in Japan, but I'll make it up there one of these days (I'm in Okazaki; near Nagoya). Travel is a bit tougher now that I have kids, but I can manage sometimes.

Good stuff, man. You have a new follower. Check out my Steemit page if you have a chance. I also post photos of Japan as well as translate Japanese haiku.

Wow beautiful pictures of the full moon tonight. You have posted a very beautiful natural and manmade factors in your evening walk way. Same beautiful full moon I also enjoyed little time before when I was walking around my bylane. I was feeling very poetic emotions after watching the beautiful pictures of beautiful nature. I have tried it on here, please have a look, you may like it. Wish you a very beautiful night friend happy steeming.

you really paint a picture with the detail 🎨 HAHA the cop concerning himself with your jaywalking

Cool!! I liked the idea of your walking down the street at that time of the hour...when the whole world is sleeping and you are the only one shunting there..enjoying the silence of the streets in a moonlit night..

Stop spooking the kids :) Japan is nice and peaceful at night :) The writing was tense man, made me hold my breath as I read the whole thing!

This was an interesting article with nice pictures! Looking forward to more from you!

well you draw a wonderful sketch of the night time walking on the empty street, the photographs you took are also so beautiful, i really like the moon shot with a ring around it so attractive and beautiful, stay blessed my friend and thanks for sharing

How did you manage to jay walk into a ghost town. xD, where is everybody? Did you actually feel save all alone and dark there?

It is really, really safe here, in general. I almost never feel like there is real danger around. Still, on this walk I did feel a little....stalked.... :)Just an eerie/fascinating/beautiful little night.

Sometimes we like to dissolve ourselves in the midst of nature's creation... is it, friend? , I like your description about the beauty of full Moon and walking lonely through the silence street.. Friend, since three days I also have been sharing some nice photography of Moon.. I don't like to enjoy alone, so I shared with my steemian friends.. If you have time please give a glance... Thanks for sharing such a nice moment of night beauty...
