A Failed Travel Vlog; An amazing journey to my Hometown.steemCreated with Sketch.

Few weeks ago, I made a decision to pay my grand mum a visit all alone for the first time. I finally concluded on the date in which I was going to embark on the journey, which was yesterday. I had the intentions to make a vlog while on my journey, but unfortunately my smartphone battery's percentage was just 18%. I knew so well it wouldn't even last me through half the journey because shooting a video at 1080p drains battery faster. So I decided to document my journey into a blog instead. Took some pictures along the journey in which I'll generally be building my story around.

The name of my hometown is Aiyetoro (now spelt as Ayetoro).

It is located at Yewa North (formerly Egbado North) which is a Local Government Area in the west of Ogun State, Nigeria bordering the Republic of Benin.

Aiyetoro was established around 1813 and it is one of the founding cites that formed Ogun State in the mid-1970s. It hosts one of the best secondary school in the old Western Region - Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro.

That was just a brief insight on what my hometown is made up of.

My Mum's parents lived there since the early 70's, and that was where we (I and my siblings) were introduced to us as our hometown. I've visited Aiyetoro numerous times that I even lost count. But all my previous visit were either for holidays or a ceremony, and it has always been with a family member. But this time around I decided to go visiting all alone.

Some of the reasons I made the decision to visit are because, out of all the grandchildren I'm the third eldest amongst all, and also I lost my grand dad earlier this year leaving just my grand mum living all by herself alone. So I decided to pay her a visit so she can still have a feeling of not been left alone all by herself.

I set out from Sagamu where I live with my parents at 11:15 am and headed to park where I was going to board the first vehicle heading to my destination. It was the Sagamu/Abeokuta park.

The route I was going to journey through were Sagamu to Abeokuta(Kuto precisely), then Abeokuta(Kuto) to Abeokuta(Lafenwa), then from Lafenwa park to Aiyetoro Park where the vehicles going to Aiyetoro awaits. And finally from Aiyetoro park to Aiyetoro itself 😊

I arrived at Sagamu/Abeokuta Park at 11:25 am and entered the vehicle which was next in turn. We (I and other passengers) waited for about 10 minutes till the vehicle got filled. We then left Sagamu/Abeokuta park at about 15 minutes to 12 noon. It took about 40 minutes to arrive at Abeokuta, Kuto park.

The Abeokuta, Kuto parks looks cranky because of the ongoing Overhead bridge construction.

When I arrived at Abeokuta, Kuto park I boarded the next vehicle heading to Abeokuta(Lafenwa). There was slight delay in filling up the vehicle. Me moved at about 40 minutes past 12 noon. The distance from Abeokuta, Kuto park to Lafenwa park was quite a short one.

I arrived at Lafenwa park within 15 minutes after leaving Kuto park. I decided to walk some few distance before boarding a bike to Aiyetoro park where I'll be taking the vehicle going to my final destination. Walking a few distance gave me the opportunity to take same iconic shot of the Lafenwa market square scene.

Below are some shots I took of the Lafenwa market square scene.

After taking some pictures, I boarded a bike to Aiyetoro park.

I got into the next vehicle in turn going to Aiyetoro. Took a shot, and in Iess than 10 minutes the vehicle was filled up. We (I and other passengers) all paid the driver for the trip and the vehicle moved out of the park and my journey to my final destination began.

We spent over 1 and half hour due to some bad roads along the way. We also came across several Custom checkpoints on our way. There are said to be over 10 custom checkpoint along the way which leads to Aiyetoro because it is an access road linking to the boarder of Republic of Benin 🇧🇯. So it has been know as a major road where motorist who deal with Importation and Exportation exploit.

I risked taking some shots at some check points. I could only risk taking some shots at two different checkpoints. Didn't bother taking shot at some checkpoints because the custom officers weren't there at the moment the vehicle I was in passed.

Below are some risky unclear shot I took of two different custom checkpoints along the road leading to Aiyetoro town

After a journey of about 1hour 40 minutes, I finally arrived at Aiyetoro. I got down from the vehicle and boarded a bike to my grand parents residence. I arrived home at exactly 2:50 pm. My grand mum welcomed me warmly. I went in to drop my bag, came out, took a picture, and my smartphone went off 😅😂

I was left stranded with no access to the internet till 7:15pm when I eventually got the chance to charge my smartphone. I knew if I had attempt making vlog, It would have been a big failure. All thanks to the alternative idea BLOG!!

The last picture I took before my smartphone went off 😅

Just quite sad I didn't get the chance to make vlog because I know it would have been more detailed and likewise saved me the stress and time of writing. Notwithstanding, I'm glad I could still share me journey with some evidence of pictures 😁
