What is "Welcome to Slothicorn"

“Welcome to Slothicorn” is an alternate reality game where players are encouraged to create crypto-themed art for the creative commons and taught how to use the tools of crypto to support themselves financially. Starting with the appearance of public slothicorn statues around the equinox (March 20ish, 2018) players complete 5 game levels which cultimate in creating a slothicorn portal to invite more players in to the game. The slothicore community will run a decentralized welcome to slothicorn event around the solstice. The game’s goal is to have creators and players enjoy making art, sharpening their crypto skills, hopefully closer to financial freedom.

How Does It Work

“Welcome to Slothicorn” invites players into the game using a portal. Portals can be anything: an email, a sculpture of a slothicorn, etc. The game will be launched with several public portals as large slothicorn statues.

The path launched by the giant slothicorns, culminating in a solstice celebration, is the main route. Any portal can link to the main route. Different community members will be in charge of different portals. This reinforces the idea that all of us and none of us are Slothicorn and that it is a world that the artist can create their own and share with others.

After encountering a portal, the player can pick from several different game vehicles to experience the content (the 5 game levels). In the final level the player creates a slothicorn portal, bringing the game full circle.

Slothicore will direct the creation of a website, a downloadable game, and an email newsletter. The goal is that any player with access to an internet connection should be able to play the game.

Game Timeline

• January: Pick game jobs!
• End of February: Finish game jobs!
• March 1-7th: Test game parts!
• March 8th-19th: Fixing any errors or problems
• March 20th: Giant slothicorns unveiled!
• March 20th-June 21st: Play the game and prep for decentralized solstice event.
• June 21st: Yay Slothicorn Solstice!

Main Route

Slothicore (the slothicorn moderators) will be organizing the main route for players from equinox to solstice, with the support of the larger Slothicorn community. All materials for the main route, created by Slothicorn members, should be released into Open Source and Creative Commons.

Mechanics

Giant slothicorns are the portals that link you to the game content (the 5 levels). Their appearance on the Equinox signals the start of the game. The content is delivered through the game vehicle as if you are talking to (a) slothicorn. The three main game vehicles are: the website, an email newsletter, and a game download. Players only need to complete the route using one game vehicle (ex: it is unnecessary for players to complete both the website route and the game download route.) Players complete the levels and finish the game by releasing a slothicorn portal into the wilde. A prize pool of various cryptocurrencies will be distributed to as many players as possible throughout the course of the game.
