My first hours in Steemit: from a beginner to all beginners.

3 Things I've just learned and think you should too.

Today's been my first day actually using and exploring Steemit, and there'sa lot to digest. This is my humble attempt to put into my own words what I think are the very basics tips for using Steemit in a rewarding way.

1.- The Steemit Community.

First of all I would like to thank the people who took a moment of their time to give me such a warm welcome. I wasn't actually expecting anything, and what I got made me feel connected and well recieved by this amazing community.
So thing #1 I learned today: the most valuable resource Steemit has is it's people. Why? Because people here follow and stand for this beatiful idea: just be yourself. So, while walking through this awesome road called Steemit, always remember to be yourself.

2.- The Wallet

Ok, I'm not really sure about this issue, but as I said, I'm just trying to put into my own words some of the things I read today. Among others, I found a really easy-to-understand post from 8 months ago by @merej99 about the Steemit Wallet. I'm going to quote the most simplistic but clear (at least for me) line to understand your wallet. In your Wallet you've got STEEM, STEEM POWER, and STEEM DOLLARS. Meredith says:

For newbies, they should be called something like:
Power this shit up, Road to being a Whale, and You can cash this.

That's clear as crystal now, isn't it? No? Ok.
Use your Steem to get more Steem Power.
Increase your Steem Power to get better rewards.
Steem Dollars are like cash. This is important: if you don't need to cash them, then don't. Support the Steemit economy, and you'll be rewarded in the medium-log term.

3.- Up-votes

Even if you're not creating content, you can still get rewarded. How? Upvoting good content. There's a lot to say about upvotes, and I strongly suggest you to look further and more detailed information about the hows and the whys. This is not an exhaustive guide. This is just me, my own words, remember?

This are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Don't upvote everything. That's now how it works.

You have something called voting power (please check https://steemstats.com/@yourusernamehere/), and you don't want it to go under 70 %- 80%. Recommended is 20 votes every 24 hours.

  • When you vote matters.

The estimated price of a post is splitted 75% for the author and 25% for the voters. Or that's what I think. The important thing you have to know is: vote content you like, and content you know will get more votes. If that's the case, you want to be one of the ver first ones to vote. If you think you're already late, don't worry. Vote between 30mins to 3hs after the content was posted.

I still have a lot to learn, that I know. This is day one. Acquiring knowledge is an everyday excercise. And may also be a collaborative excercise.

So let me know! Has this been helpful for you? Please, if you know better (I'm sure I got something wrong) share your wisdom in the comments so we can all learn a bit more and make this community grow together.

See you next time!
