How China is taking over the world one belt, one road at a time

in #politics5 years ago (edited)

The sleeping dragon that is the economy of the mighty Empire of China, has not always been asleep. In fact just two hundred or so years ago, China was a world economic superpower. The British used their naval superiority to push back against the dragon for a while though. Britain forced opium onto the dragon and lulled it into a slumber for some decades, even claiming the treasure of Hong Kong, jewel of the Empire. But the dragon is rising once again...possibly a lot faster than we realize.

One Belt, One Road
In an ambitious project to link up the trade routes of the world, China has its One Belt, One Road in place and it includes having just leased the deep port city of Gwadar from Pakistan, 120 km from the Iranian border, for the next 43 years, until 2059. China is moving in half a million Chinese nationals, has already built a military base, and now has a strategic shipping supply hub right in the Arabian Sea, just a short distance from Iran and all the oil it requires. This is a new kind of colonialism taking place before our eyes. If the British could do it with Hong Kong, I guess the Chinese have the same right. At least they’re doing it diplomatically and as a business deal.

China is making big geo-political moves, and they move fast for a big Empire. Not only will they have access to liquefied natural gas, but also rich mineral resources lying untapped in that region of Pakistan. Remember China is the power behind the massive BRICS group of nations, as well as the Shanghai Co-operation Organization, the Asian collective of economic partners. Now with this added strategic port so close to the Middle East, they are also surrounding India more than ever, who has been at loggerheads with them before.

The world is splitting into two opposing sides for WW III
In the current splitting of the world politically, for the big showdown of the Empires, China is joined by Russia, Iran, Turkey, Philippines, Malaysia and even South Korea potentially. While on the other hand we have USA, Japan and India, with the EU, etc. This is the big split occurring presently.

WW III has already started. It is a cyber war, and everyone is being hit. It just depends on who gets hit the least. What we are seeing is the weaponising of the electrical grid of various nations. In other words, because the power grid of most countries is online and run on computers nowadays, hackers are planting malware viruses back and forth in national power supplies. This is the current war between China, Russia and the West.

In 2015 already Ukraine’s power grid went offline intermittently for almost a month, and in 2017 the USA had three of their biggest cities – San Francisco, LA and NY - all get hit with blackouts simultaneously. Even recently there have been blackouts in Brooklyn and Manhattan. And that is where Wall St. is located. Apparently Iran and North Korea are known sources for malware targeting other county’s computers. This is already going on. Venezuela’s President Maduro just recently announced that the nation is under cyber electric attack. Two hydro-electric dams were hit simultaneously, affecting power for almost a month. This could apparently be considered one of the most successful cyber attacks on a sovereign nation ever.

Trump has recently announced that he plans to attack the Russian electrical grid, it is alleged. Russia is, of course, backing Venezuela (who owe Russia and China big loans), as well as Syria and Iran. So the war between the two opposing sides is under way as the global dollar hegemony slowly declines. This proxy war on the electrical grids of nations is actually pushing some, including America, to consider going back to the old analogue system that was around before computers. The current system, run via the internet, is just too vulnerable.

Maybe all of this is why President Trump suspended billions of dollars of security aid to Pakistan at the star of this year. Pakistan is also helping to build Chinese military jets, clearly showing its allegiance to the new rising dragon rather than the dwindling American eagle.

Hong Kong busy erupting
Caught in the middle of all this is Honk Kong, once part of the west while geographically stuck in the East. Apparently the current Honk Kong street protest action is the worst in 20 years, with goups fighting each other. The new rise for independence is stronger than ever since the mainland began cracking down somewhat. China will never give up HK. Locals are seen to be raising the old Union Jack in places, in absurdly vain attempts to bring back the old Empire. Overall it doesn’t look good globally or locally in HK where wealthier people, of the elite are simply starting to leave and go to places like Singapore, another wealth hub of Asia.

Trade wars are here to stay
And this is not going to go away. The trade war between the superpowers at present will carry on for decades, and it will aid in the collapse of the world economy in the coming financial crash and recession. So choose your sides now guys, while you still can because the showdown is coming to a town near you in the coming months. And it could get messy. Smart money is moving out of the dollar and into gold, even the Chinese Yuan, some say the Swiss Frank, or even the Euro, though that will be a joke. Ultimately it’s Bitcoin which is the other hedge. If we see China becoming more friendly towards Bitcoin, that could certainly bring it into the center stage of the currency wars as they biol over in coming years. Who is your money on? Does the old Empire stand much chance against the rising dragon of the East? Or is this the swan song for the petro-dollar, whose era of domination lasted only between the two world wars, the second and the third?

So much suspense. I wish we could view this as fiction. Alas, we shall have to live it out and swim where we can.

In my view it's just healthy but dangerous competition.
America and the west have had everything their own way for far to long.
Propaganda works both ways.
Who says Capitalism is the best way?
Freedom in the west is just a myth.
We are all controlled by the might of the huge multinational companies.

How many Americans are moving to Russia and China?

China is more capitalist than America these days and much less free. There are way more executions and prisoners in China than the rest of the world combined. They have done away with the inconvenience of elections and their only political party has the biggest army in the world and absolute control over media. To compare it to America is a joke. You are either completely ignorant or dishonest.

I dont know if you are a Korean national or an American living in Korea. But you have no idea what is happening in America that is for sure.
China is more capitalist than America, no country in the world is more Capitalistic than the good old US of A.
For capitalist read America.
Its news media is run by Billionaires and backed by sponsorship of huge multinational companies.
Do you think they would not toe the party line. Would they say some drug is killing people, when their biggest sponsor is the company that is producing that product?
Control comes in many forms.
Do you think they came to South Korea's aid out of the compassion for it's people. No they didn't want Russia to have a forward air base on China's doorstep. They wanted that and that what they got.
And to top it all they installed a puppet government as they do in every country they invade.
You call me ignorant.
We have a saying in the west.
American people are like Mushrooms... kept in the dark and fed in bullshit.
Oh and criminals are executed in America as they are in China.
American also holds people for years in Guantanamo bay without trial. Is that good human rights?
10 of thousands of people move to China and Russia for work and education. The big company called Google told me that.
I am assuming that you are translating this so I will forgive you for calling me ignorant it must have been a mistake in translation.
Look up Flint water on Google and see what the US does to its own people in pursuit of profit. I wish you a good day.

America has 75X the immigrants as China and China has at least 75X the executions as America.

10 thousands move to Russia and China, however, millions move to America.

I have been to America, Russia and China. I can assure you out of the three America is the best. Please visit China and Russia, spend some time there, I'm sure you will agree they aren't nice places to live compared to America.

If you can I suggest you download or find a full copy of this movie.

The real America not what the press presents to the world.

I've seen it. Michael Moore loves America. He is just upset when the Democrats are not in power. There is no way he would go on record saying Russia or China are better than America because he would become a complete laughingstock.

If you re read my post I was not advocating for China or America.
I was merely suggesting that both communism and capitalism need a check. Somewhere in the middle is the ground we need to be on.
I am a socialist not a communist.
Don't get the two mixed up. Countries can be run both for the poor and the rich. As Britain was after ww2. With the introduction of s good welfare system. Including housing and a health service free for all not just those in work or the rich.

Interesting point there.

Thanks for the comment, Capitalism has been hijacked and is not what we have as a system as such apparently, although it is called that. You are correct in saying it is the multinational corporations that override national laws sometimes.

I am extremely skeptical about the rise of China. They have the Americans beat for corruption and greed and will definitely give the Russians a run for their money or do worse.

As for the opium wars, qing dynasty was so corrupt and incompetent, the British received the opportunity of a lifetime there.

I don't think it is fair to compare Imperialism of the 1800s and 1900s or colonialism of the 1500s to 1800s with what China is doing in the 21st CE, they are making deals with non-democracies and have the audacity to call it business.

China has 1 million or so Muslims in prison because they don't act Chinese enough, however, the citizens in Muslim countries are protesting America (because their governments reward this). China also patriots North Koreans and turns a blind eye to the sexual enslavement of women and wife buying on a scale that is unmatched. There is also widespread organ harvesting in prisons, etc. It is truly the evilest empire on the planet and probably the worst yet to come.

Great points to note Mr Skeptic. We need your discerning insight. China will make American crimes look quite tame by comparison. We may be going out of the frying pan and into the fire, as the saying goes.

I've been to China and America both several times. People are way happier and better off in America than China.

Good to know, experience is the best teacher.

Both America and China are criminal despots. I wouldn't move to America if you paid me a free UBI for the rest of my life. Pure war criminals, run by the elite. China is a dictatorship run by human rights criminals, Free Tibet. Citizens of both are slaves to criminals, they think they are free in America, but suffer under manufactured consent, while enjoying a good life based on the blood of their military imperialism. Criminals in rich garb. It too is collapsing.

It's so strange to me that governments go through all of this trouble, are we really "enemies" with Chinese/Russian/Iranian citizens?. I guess in terms of "resources", but I feel like we learned a long time ago that cooperation is a radically more efficient way of procuring resources. It isn't the 1960's anymore, I don't think anyone really wants a war aside from political propaganda.

Well said, the leaders that run the world don't seem to care as much about the people as much as the resources, so they will invade their countries to take those resources, regardless of the innocent people harmed, like America did in Iraq, etc. China invaded Tibet murderously too, so it seems human life is disposable to the powers that run the governments. Cooperation sounds like a much better strategy.

At this stage I am honestly very concerned for my kids and all future generations. Communist China has only been able to rise to power because they were willing to capture the greed of capitalists to sell out workers so the few could profit. I doubt China would have risen without greedy CEOs and investors taking a short term view of profit. They like to say that they are following Friedman's advice of maximizing profit, but Friedman was clear that focusing on short term profit (vs long term) was a race to the bottom. He was also clear that businesses say they want a free market, but in fact do not--they want a monoploy, or even better legislation to mandate that people buy from them. Alas, in their greed, businesses have now handed China a near monopoly on manufacturing the very hi tech goods that the modern world runs on. China, of course, being an authoritarian country was able to manipulate capitalists both by stealing IP and through central funding of strategic initiatives. I would be less concerned about all of this if the US was a stable country, but Trump's election and subsequent administration has greatly weakened the US. It was bad enough that nearly 50 % of Americans voted for a person who was so clearly unfit to be president. We knew he would do a lot of damage, but in fact we greatly underestimated the damage he is actually doing. What's worse, around 43% still support him--despite or perhaps because he is an immature, racist bully with little understanding of history, science and politics, and now a history of largely damaging appointments and decisions. While the US does not exactly have a stellar past on both racial issues at home and foreign interventions, Trump has clearly moved us into a space that is even worse on these issues. He and the GOP have also continued to give businesses more power and tax breaks at the expense of the vast majority of citizens. This will ultimately lead to more inequality and even more instability in the US. The irresponsible denial of climate science by the Trump admin and the world's refusal, in general, to actually address it, is already causing problems and will lead to more mass migrations. In short, we are now set up for major problems and major shifts in power. I for one don't want to be ruled by China, but the US and the EU are now succumbing to nationalism, so the post-WWII leaders can no longer be trusted to lead. Now mix in cyber attacks. Not just taking power down, but influencing votes. Add in manipulation by the likes of Google and Facebook, and the resulting distortion and disinformation that they and media like Fox News are capable of. Overall, the future does not look bright.
