Seafood fiesta sinigang
Dear readers, I want to share a dish today that I always cook for the whole family but this time I use seafood. You can use pork, beef, chicken for this dish. It is called sinigang, a Filipino soup or stew characterized by its sour and savory taste most often associated with tamarind. For us the sourer it tastes, the better.
As usual, after work and my husband and little one fetch me at my work, we went straight to fish market to buy fish.
I saw this dish from one of our flatmates and I thought of cooking it myself for the family. He didn't cook sinigang though. He just cooked it with tomatoes and onions. A nilaga type. Normally, my fish sinigang would consist one type of fish only but upon discovering it from a flatmate, I kept thinking of giving it a try. I personally call this seafood fiesta sinigang. Haha!
Being familiar faces in the fish market and my little one is the "star" with the fish vendors, giving high fives and his and hellos to everyone, they know not to mess with us when it comes to the price because I already have listedin my head for each fish that I buy. Haha!!
BUDGET TIP
Salmon is one of the most expensive fishes in the fish market for 60.00 AED (16.50 USD) per kilo but you can buy the bones from the salmon fillets for 10.00 AED (2.75 USD) per kilo. Same with its head. So I prefer buying it. I got 1 piece of salmon head, 1 whole bone of salmon and let them cut it there. Save yourself from cutting too. I usually buy with fish vendors where they cut and clean the fish you bought for free. I bought also 1/2 kg of large fresh prawns. I got them all for a total of 20.00 AED (5.50 USD)These vegetables were bought from the vegetable market, the same building of the fish market where we bought our salmon and prawns. In the next picture, maybe you are asking yourself
What is the banana doing in the picture?
Hahah! I just took a picture of these together with the sinigang mix, a powder like mix that makes your sinigang sour. It comes with spicy mix too but my sister @marieeugene is not a fan of spicy dish so we just put some chily or chilly powder to our own dish. The bananas were given for free by the vegetable vendor because we are his "suki", a tagalog term for regular customer, sometimes giving us apples, oranges and plums.
Cooking this dish is very easy. Just boil a liter or 2 of water with sliced onions, tomatoes and garlic. Once the water is boiling, put the salmon and the prawns, followed by the vegetables except the water spinach. Cook for 5 minutes and adjust the taste with salt and black ground black pepper then pour in the sinigang mix. I used 2 packs of sinigang mix because we love it really sour. Then put the water spinach, cover the pot and turn off the fire in order to not overcook the vegetables.

I am not a fan of shrimp mam. The only reason I use this because I have salmon to eat. Haha!! bangus is one of my favorite fishes too. Ihaw, sabaw or prito. <3
Samaral (Deep sea water)fishes are the most tastier like maya-maya when cooking sinigang especially the panga of yellow fin..hmmm..mouth watering indeed!
