I invite you to learn from my mistakes in Steemit

in #steemit5 years ago

In this publication I want to talk about some very important points within this platform. I would like to serve as a small orientation, or whatever you want to call it, for those new users, making sure that whoever reads me receives the message and does not get hurt by things we can avoid.

This I bring up in view of the fact that I have already seen several cases in which I considered abuse of those negative votes, of course this is not the specific subject of this publication, not of .

As I understand the use of these votes does not affect the VotingPower of who runs it. It has been created in a way to give that vote punishment to users whose contents are plagiarism, there is no good use of the sources or do not refer to them in their publications. Among other things.

However, and I will not make specific mentions to avoid inconveniences, I have seen abuse of this negative vote in very well written publications, with all the respective sources, only for the fact of not agreeing with what it raises.

So one way to prevent new users from falling victim to this is to educate about the correct use of fonts, tags and other details at the time of publishing.

I write with emphasis on new users because in general they are the ones who are most exposed to this type of errors, but it should be noted that even users who have time on the platform continue to make improper use of tags and not making correct citation of the sources, whether by omission, forgetfulness or whatever reason, but will always enter the terrain of plagiarism.

At this point I make a parenthesis.

Recently I made a mistake, in my last publication on medical content I placed a paragraph, which at the time of editing the post was between leaving it or not as a complement to the information, was not a paragraph that was created by me but taken from a website of medical guidance, based on information from the World Health Organization (WHO).

I left to finish the post at another time, do not place the font at the right time, and went out to work. When I arrived, I simply didn't have the line of what I was doing and I published without placing the source of this paragraph, I didn't take the time to review, correct, etc, I was tired and I simply published without reviewing.

Then when I was writing this publication I got a notification of a comment from a user who performs healing work on this post in question by pointing out the correct use of the sources...

I was surprised, it is the first time that something similar happens to me, it left me in the comments the source of the specific paragraph that leaves without its respective source... **I thank you for it, because from mistakes you learn.

What have I learned from this lesson?

  • Don't leave things half-hearted.
  • Be more cautious with the use of sources.
  • Do not work on a post with tiredness, as it avoids realizing this kind of things, among others. It is preferable to leave it for later and not make these kinds of mistakes.
  • Do not work with rush any post, because in the same way that tiredness leads you to err the rush will do it.

Having clarified this point, I continue the previous idea...

As a consequence, they are often judged and even blacklisted by omission of certain rules that are handled on the platform. I have seen cases in which months after having made an error is still catalogued from this, and should not be.

That makes me think about the same thing that happens in society, if someone was put in prison for some crime (guilty or not) when he left having already paid his sentence people will never stop seeing him as the person who offended, and from that reality will be treated.

But society is like that, we are like that, unfortunately

Currently in steemit the tribes are the order of the day, ie, have served to help users with a specific trend of theme for their publications are concentrated on a single interface of this platform, ie, if they are published is photographs on a blog, will use tag #photography, but can also use #creativecoin, and these will generate benefits in other tokens other than steem. Also if they are photos of flowers (for example) the #flores or #flowers tags would be well used, and if the publication is in Spanish they can use the #spanish tag. This way you will avoid negative votes for the incorrect use of them. It is the task of new users to study, seek information and advice from those who have more time here at steemit in order to move forward faster and without complications.

A second and no less important point is how to cite the sources from which an image or information is extracted to complement our publications. It is essential to do it, because by not complying with this is like saying that everything embodied in that publication is of your creation, and if it is not so you are simply committing plagiarism.

If you are going to use an image of public domain, of those that offer in platforms like Pixabay, there are those who say that it is not necessary to refer to the source since they are of Public Domain, they can be used without authorship problem, however, particularly I do not fail to cite the source even if it is of this origin, I prefer to do it to make clear the origin, in my opinion it is better, there are also those who at the end of the publications leave a note in which they make reference to all the images used were taken from a certain site, it is a matter of everyone, and along the way is doing (within the norm) what suits us and / or like.

When you are going to use a paragraph or sentence from some other site on the web, you must place the font, without any discussion, in that case there is no choice if I place it or not. In the same way there are different possibilities of doing it, according to the style of each one.

One way to do this may be as follows:

"A quotation is the mention of another's text, idea or phrase, it sends the reader to the source from which the information was extracted."1

Or simply place it at the end of the quote, and it's in quotation marks.

"A quotation is the mention of another's text, idea or phrase, it sends the reader to the source from which the information was extracted."Source

As I said before, the way in which the source of additional information of your post refers is available to each user, but you have to do it.
