THINGVELLIR PARK: ICELAND (TIPS & PICTURES)
Þingvellir (Thingvellir) is a national park in southwestern Iceland and is a tourist hot-spot. It's a magnificently beautiful place and part of the mid-atlantic ridge. Iceland is the place to be these days so if you'd like to avoid the crowds, try for a visit in late September/early October or March/April.
I'd visited in March and though a bit chilly, there were no other tourists around where I was hiking. If you can, try to find the following sign...
It's a campsite in the park and is usually busy during the season 1, June to 30, September but off-season it will be sparsely populated and peaceful. By going on the hiking trail nearby to the campsite you will be able to see part of the mid-atlantic rift.
99% of places in Iceland are stunningly gorgeous so...if you don't follow these instructions you're bound to have an amazing time anyway. Though, it will certainly add to your experience to visit this park.

Thanks so much. It's an unbelievable country. I've been there twice and it keeps getting better and better. I hope you get to go one day....my advice. Don't go in summer. There are way too many tourists.

Thanks for that little visit to Iceland. I'm waiting to board a plain for Reykjavik at this moment, but will just pass through the airport en route to Scotland. I'm doing a one day layover on the way back though - just enough time to plan a longer trip for next time!
Too bad it's such a short stop there. It's a nice small airport. Get the coffee. It's great.
Thanks for the tip! I had planned to have coffee and maybe pastry when I arrived, but it's a long story! The woman at Jacksonville Airport told me my luggage could not be booked all the way through to Aberdeen. I questioned that but she insisted I had to pick it up in Iceland! What a nightmare! She was wrong of course! I had to exit, pick up my bag and go through customs and immigration. Then I had to check my bag in and find my way back to the gate. It is quite a small airport, but I walked 1 1/2 miles to get all that accomplished - up and down escalators too! I got back to the gate just in time for boarding! I must admit that I really enjoyed the coffee on Iceland Air!
