Journeys Chapter Two p7

Iohn had started out his day by waking up in the vestibule of a small country church. After stretching the tiredness out of his body, he gathered his things and started another day of walking. He didn't know where he was going, or what he was going to do, but something always seemed to turn up.

It's almost as if I'm being led. He thought to himself as he started towards the rising sun. By midday, he had walked eighteen miles, when he decided to stop and look for something to eat. After fifteen minutes of looking around, he had about decided that he would eat the leftover bread and cheese from the day before. You can't always get fresh food, he was philosophical about the whole thing. Just when he was about to break out the hard tack, he smelled something interesting. That smells like cooking venison. Another sniff of the air. It is, and it smells so good.

Putting the bread back into his pack, he quietly followed his nose down a little used trail until he came to a small clearing, where someone had set up a small camp. The small one person tent was set in front of a banked fire, where the aforementioned venison was cooking on a skewer. Even though he had just began his journey from home, he had already learned that not everything was as it seemed, and he took a good long minute to look around the camp. Where is the person who's living here? You don't just start something cooking, then wander off. He froze and looked around, searching for the camper. I'm sure that he already knows that I'm here. So, I might as well let him know that I mean no harm.

“Hello, the camp.” He raised his hands, showing that he had no weapons. “I'm not here to do harm. I smelled your venison and thought we could share a meal.” He took a step forward, coming out of the brush. “I've got bread and cheese. It would go great with your venison.” Great, I'm babbling. He groused to himself as he took another look around the camp. “If it's okay with you, I'm just going to sit by the fire.”

Matching action to words, he sank down by the fire and placed his hands, palms up, on this crossed legs and waited.

He didn't have long to wait, and when the camper appeared, he was struck speechless by the sight of a Daoine a bhios a 'siubhal(1) female in rangers garb. It was his first time seeing one of the graceful ethereal beings. From the bottom of her feet to the top of her head, she was all of five feet eight inches. Her crystal green eyes were slightly upturned and matched the graceful curve of her ears. Her smile was like the sun coming out from behind the clouds.

“Hello, yourself.” She commented as she sank to her knees across the fire from him. “My name is Ariel iarr an earraich. What is your name?” She tilted her head slightly to the left, allowing her long brown hair to fall over her shoulder.

After catching his breath, Iohn introduced himself. “I am Iohn Shepherd. I'm pleased to meet you.”

( Daoine a bhios a 'siubhal = Literally, “people who travel,” The firstborn of the gods.)

Very nice content, thanks for sharing
I've resteemed your post!

Sometime an enticing aroma is hard to resist. Iohn, it seems is a pretty trusting person. To walk into another person's camp, not knowing if they are good or bad, either extremely self confident, foolish, or somewhere inbetween. Inbetweeners the most difficult types to figure.
