[Vlog] I Paid 5 SBD To Promote Content - How Did It Go?

Experiment or Waste of SBD?

Can't it be both?

I have been mulling over the idea of promoting my content.

(but before I begin, since I'm on the topic of self promotion, - please remember to leave an upvote and follow if you enjoy my content! Here's my last blog and arguably my best so far https://steemit.com/dtube/@johneyreacko/q07g14qs )

SO - promotion.

How to do it?

Since I have been learning about curation I've come across various methods to do this - some less ethical than others. As far as I know I'm yet to join any curation trails and I do intend on looking into them. @balticbadger has mentioned to me to look into @curie - and I will, right now though this is still undiscovered territory.

After considering some high voting bid-bots (however tempting) I understand that this is an artificial way of engaging with the ecosystem. Now, please understand that this is fairly hazy moral landscape. Paying SBD to signal boost some high quality content via resteeming seems to be more ethical than paying for upvotes, as it doesn't disrupt the distribution of tokens - but it could still be considered spam.

Personally I see myself using neither, that is, unless I am running a competition or charity post or something that might require some legitimate and artificial signal boosting.

For my first attempt at promotion on the Steem Blockchain, I thought I'd try the most obvious and easiest option to start off with.

The pic2.JPG Button

After a preliminary check, unlike the broken Trending page, 'Promoted' seems fairly legitimate.

Check out the top 4 promoted posts as of the time this blog was written.

THE top 3 look totally legit, it's only when you get to number 4 do you get to a post that looks like it could be abused by bidbots.

I only spent 5 SBD and my post after 10 HOURS is down to rank 17.

Thankfully it has managed to gain the attention of the Dtube bot, so it has a couple of strong upvotes to offset the cost of promotion.

As you can see, the video ranked 2nd only has made $0.04, which although commendable - it is for certain not profitable.

If 5 SBD put me in rank 17, I'm just going to say that ranks 1,2 and 3 each put in over 10 SBD.

Conclusion?

The Promotion Tab

Does not guarantee that your post will be successful. It is not a bid-bot service which will guarantees minimum votes or resteems. In effect all it does is place your content on a slowly refreshing news feed. It's a great idea when you consider just how quickly regular or 'new' feeds are refreshed.

(For me I'm certain it has done next to nothing in regards of generating new traffic.)

Sometimes amazing posts can become lost in the sea of flowing content, but with paid promotion it remains in front of people's eyes for a little bit longer.

Use the promotion tab only if you believe the content has STAYING POWER

If you're confident in its high quality and relevancy, using the 'Promoted' tab might not be such a bad idea. Maybe if you find your content pulling a regular audience, or if you find it naturally drawing in new people - it might be a sign for you to promote!

For minnows like myself who... eh, I wouldn't say I produce great content - maybe good is a stretch? lol

It might not be for me just yet.

I'll keep an open mind though!

Hey - 5 SBD for a lesson like that isn't too bad I reckon!

I hope you have a great day everyone!

Thanks for reading!

I have not used it. I work the comments to gain attention. You can see all of what I do and recommend on the link at the bottom of my posts except for the share2steem posts.

I'm here to see if you know about this socalsteemit meetup

https://steemit.com/socalsteemit/@socalsteemit/socal-steemit-meetup-reminder-live-blues-in-tarzana-ca

If you can get to Tarzana for it it will be worth your while. I wish I could go. I think there will be a good turnout and my son @bxlphabet will be there for sure.

Oh man I wish I could go.. unfortunately it is on the wrong side of LA for me. Working the comments does seem to work best, that and joining in competitions.

I hope I can make it to other meetups

There will be more. They try to get 1 a month. I think next month will be more south though.

It's all a game here at steem. You just need to find the parts of it that work for you :)

Yes, sir, I tried that once too with similar results. I wonder if Steemit got home again if there would be much more use of the promotion page. I don't mind one way or the other about voting bots. I used them just don't use resteem services anymore. I think that's a waste of money

That's fair enough. Do you find it works out for you using voting bots? I'll probably give in and give it a go eventually lol

Resteem is a waste of money too? That's good to know 😅

If you keep up with ROI it can pay big time! @tipu was 105% after curation so you make 5% income on the upvote. Also, I have quite a few steemians on my fanbase. They are automatically upvoting everyone of my posts, so I always wait until the auto upvotes are done then I will hit it with an upvote bot so they get a nice curation reward. Everyone benefits! Hope this helps
