This Yellow Lake is our favorite place to go fishing during the summer time. This is a very popular ice fishing lake or just overall fishing lake which lies south-west of Penticton en route to Vancouver which is Highway 3A.
You can catch rainbow trout, brook trout and kokanee.

SO HOW DOES THE FISH SURVIVE IN THE FROZEN YELLOW LAKE?
Since this mountain sheltered lake does not receive enough wind action to completely circulate the lake and saturate the water with the oxygen.
When the lake is covered with the winter ice, the oxygen reserve is used up rapidly which results in many fish die from lack of oxygen.
British Columbia Fish and Wildlife Branch established a Lake Aeration Project which included the Yellow Lake to help realize the potential of keeping this lake a highly productive lake with the food resources for this large population of fish.
Acompressed air bubbler system installed in this Yellow Lake incudes the circulation by lifting ower deoxygenated water to teh lake surface where it absorbs oxygen from the atomosphere.
Also from the air bubbles, some oxygen is introduced directly to the water.
This artificial circulation provides year round angling in a lake that would otherwise support the trout for only 6 months before they would freeze-up.
This electric power supply to the air compressor is supplied by the West Kootenay Power and Light Company.
