Drawing the short straw // A Post Story
The ice groaned under her weight as she made the ascent. There wasn't far to go, and she'd be inside the installation. When they made the plan, she drew the short straw - and so here she was climbing 200 feet of solid ice. All she had to do was climb the ice wall, break a lock, climb through 30 feet of vent tunnels and then open the door for the rest of her team.
Easy.
Finally she reached the top, unhooking her rope she secured it in case she had to make a quick escape. Quietly she approached the large metal grating that covered the exhaust vents. Pulling the bolt cutter from her pack, she snapped the lock. The sound reverberated through the tunnel - but it didn't seem to draw any attention. Clearly they weren't expecting visitors from this direction.
She opened the metal grate and made her way down the tunnel. She hadn't made it more than a 10 feet before she heard voices.
"Shit. Guards."

I have a couple of otherwise sane friends (motorcycle riders) that Ice Climb in the winter in New England. Gives me the willies.

Crazy people - part of that icewall have running water behind it. You can hear it as you're climbing.
