Westworld. The movie that started it all.

If you're like most people then you love HBO's original series. I know I do.

Let's face it.

They're awesome.

From Game of Thrones to The Wire to The Sopranos to Deadwood.... they never cease to amaze me with their creativity and amazing ability to bring a story to the screen in a way that breathes fresh new life into it.

I'm sure many of you have seen the HBO series called Westworld that came out in 2016.

It was a haunting masterpiece about a western town that real people could go visit that was inhabited by entirely by robots.

These robots looked entirely real.

You could do anything with these robots. You could have a robot drinking buddy. You could get into a duel with a robot. You could sleep with a robot prostitute. You could do pretty much everything that you could do in a western town with these robots that looked completely real.

Add an awesome score and a lot of introspective into the inner workings of what these robots actually are and what it means to society to have subservient robots that look completely human and you wind up with something entirely cool.

This HBO series was not the original Westworld.

The original Westworld movie came out in 1973.

That's right, it predates the original Star Wars by four years.

It's over 40 years old.

Visually speaking, it is not nearly as engaging as the HBO series. You really wouldn't imagine that it would be.

However, they do a really great job in making the robots appear real without having to resort to any sort of CGI effects. Such effects couldn't have been possible in 1973 after all.

The interesting thing about the movie is that it's not really just about Westworld like the series is. The movie is actually about several theme worlds that are populated by robots.

Westworld is only the first of these.

A couple of gentlemen go on an adventure to Westworld. They find it to be a very enjoyable experience.

There's a malfunction in one of the amusement park creatures. A snake bites someone, drawing blood and causing real pain. This is not supposed to be capable of happening.

Earlier on we notice several incidents where a particular gunman is constantly trying to fight our two gentlemen adventurers. It's fun to see the gunfights, and they seem to enjoy it.

However, this robot character seems to get increasingly aggravated despite the fact that he's not supposed to have any feelings.

Not long after the incident with the snake bite, the other characters in the different theme parks all start going crazy.

There is a medieval Park where a man is stabbed by his opponent robot. Each of the individual parks becomes a dangerous place to be.

Essentially it is a gigantic slaughter.

No one is safe.

Yul Brynner does a great job playing this crazed robot that is on the rampage with his deadly intent to kill our main adventurer.

As I stated earlier, the special effects aren't anything to get too excited about but then again this movie was made more than 40 years ago.

The vibe is absolutely incredible though.

All the actors do an amazing job. The scenery really is good for its time.

Westworld really is a great movie, especially for coming out so long ago. It's a sci-fi movie that helped to get the genre started in the right direction.

If you're interested in the movie that started the phenomenon, then you should definitely check out Westworld. It's a great movie and I highly recommend it even though it does look it's age. It's still something that everyone should watch.

I have to say that it's one of the better movies from it's time that I've seen.
