Happy Chinese New Year
Today marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, so I want to share a few of my shots from recent trips to China. Usually when I visit Dongguan for work, I stay at the same hotel near Songshan Lake. There is a beautiful park next to the hotel, so I like to get up early to walk or jog on the lakeside paths. I pass by this same pavilion every time, so I have taken quite a few photographs of it over the years.
The shot at the top of this post is my favorite, but I like to compare the different photos because the same location has a completely different feel in each. Early in the morning with fog on the lake, it’s a very peaceful, tranquil spot. Visit on a sunny weekend afternoon though, and the park is alive with couples and families trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
These were all shots taken with smartphones (an iPhone 5s or Moto X Pure), and you can see that I went a little overboard processing a couple of the images in Snapseed. I like the moody element that the grungy effect adds to the bottom two images, but I may have overdone it a bit. There is always that temptation to over-process when you edit photos on a phone (for me at least), but that can be part of the fun.

I agree with you, my favourite is also the first, more because of the composition and edit
Thanks! I like the fog in the first one...and I do prefer the composition. The other three were primarily shot for Instagram, so I was trying to work with the square crop. That view lends itself to a wide format though.
