28 Years Ago Today....by Jbcoin

28 years, sounds like a very long time,
A guy in his early 20's just shy of his prime.

Carried his Dad up a mountain side, on a cold winter day,
To a final resting place, all sandstone and clay.

Too new to know the real loss yet, to understand all of the words,
Instead he focuses on the sounds from the birds.

His Dad loved those hills and it's where he was his best,
He now understands why he chose this place for his rest.

You may not understand,
but all graves there are dug by hand.

His brother completed alone,
While his mother sat at home.

When the service was done,
The grave was covered by his son.

I will never know a louder sound,
Than that first shovelful of ground.
