Rugby in monochrome - #monochromemonday
I’ve always thought sports photography was spectacular in black and white. Only recently I started editing some of my pictures to convert them to monochrome. I’m not sure I’m very good at action shots, but I did have fun trying to capture some great moments at my daughter’s Rugby game earlier today.
Rugby is all at once an incredibly physical, yet beautifully fluid sport. The players (at least in our girls’ league) have so much fun. The mud flies, the girls sack each other, run into each other, and are at times nearly trampled. But every time they come out smiling!

There is something enthralling indeed about a monochrome shot. Maybe it is the contrast or how a secondary colour may not distract from the main subject.
Anyhow, great shots of nice competitive action.

This might be the league of your daughter and pictures in black and white provide a different perspective than color. I love to see historic pictures in black and white!
Yes, historic black and white sports photography — or, in fact, any historic pictures — are awesome.

Excellent action shots, @jayna! I think the last one really captures the energy of the play - you can really see the intensity in the girl's faces! I've played a bit with monochrome before, and now you've got me thinking I need to do some more. Thanks for the inspiration!
