Player Profile: Keaton Jennings

Keaton Jennings introduced himself to cricket by scoring a hundred runs in Mumbai against India. That seems to be a very satisfying debut. The management of England highly regarded Jennings, and they viewed him as a potential captain and a future batsman during the period when his left-hander teammate, Alastair Cook, was about to end. But, Jennings never imagined a more taxing life. Before the retirement of Cook, Jennings had already played up to 22 innings where he added his goal tally with a half-century (50 runs), still on his debut tour in Mumbai.

In 2016, Jennings' career continued in a great way when the Club of Cricket Writers crowned him the 2016 best player of the county championship at the age of 24. He was crowned because he scored the highest run in that season. He scored 1,548 runs, with the average being 64.5 with 700s, he also scored 200 runs (double-century) in the match played against Yorkshire.

The reason why England recognized him was because of the impact he had on his Mumbai debut where he got a century. His wonderful form and experience made him be viewed as a Test captain for the future. Unfortunately for Jennings, his form dropped in the next summer without even getting up to a half-century, and there was no improvement in his footwork. At the end of six Tests, the management dropped him. He later moved to Lancashire to seek for salvation.

On his debut season at Lancashire, he topped the averages and he was recalled to the Test team to face Pakistan. After, they faced India at home.

Jennings is a tall batsman who uses the left hand. At the age of 19, he debuted for Gauteng when they faced the free state in 2011 (December). He was the former captain of South Africa's U-19 side. The former coach of South Africa, Ray Jennings, is Keaton Jennings’ father. Jennings served for four years so that he can play for England.

In the year 2014, he made his debut (list A) for Durham when they faced Sri Lanka. In 2016, Durham's faith in Jennings would be rewarded. Although they were relegated, Jennings still stayed for another season at the county.
