What Makes Nicholas Sparks Novels and Movies So Popular?
Romance genre is normally loved by women. They love to read and watch lovestories that can make their heart swell and ache at the same time. They love seeing couples go crazy for each other and surpasses each trial together. They want to see how things unfold and how the two main characters stick together despite everything. It keeps them inspired and hopeful. It drives them to keep on believing on true love and that "forever" exists afterall. While men, most but not all, find these books and movies corny and too cheesy for their own taste. They mostly prefer action and fantasy genres because they find it more appealing and entertaining. That's why it's no longer a surprise why majority of romance authors are female.
But there's a male romance author who has been releasing bestselling novels throughout the years and never lost his magic up to now. He is none other than Nicholas Sparks. His novels were famous across the world and most of them were adapted into full-length films. From bestselling books to blockbuster movies, Nicholas Sparks seems unstoppable in dominating the romance genre. He has been on top of his game eversince and has established and cemented his name as an effective romance author.
Some of his works were The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, The Last Song, The Longest Ride, The Lucky One, Safe Haven, The Choice, The Best Of Me and Dear John to name a few. These stories were a hit and received a warm support from his fans.
The question is: What makes his novels and movies so popular and well-loved?
First, he is undoubtedly a good storyteller who has the ability to show the beautiful and painful side of love. He knows what he's doing and he's apparently killing it. He creates impressive plots and mindblowing plot twists. His novels are distinct from each other yet they have a certain amount of similarity which gives you a familiar "feels" whenever you read or watch his works.
His characters are very relatable. They are flawed individuals who are capable of making mistakes just like all of us. They are not too perfect which makes them more effective in relaying their emotions to us that's why t's not hard to get attached and fall in love with them. In addition to that, his characters are very much in love with each other that they are willing to face anything to protect their relationship.
A lot of his stories have a painful ending or a heartbreaking plot that would require lots of water and a box of tissue paper. But we still can't stop loving them because his works are worth all the pain. When he gives us a sad ending, it's justifiable and wasn't written for the sole purpose of making people cry. It has to be done for the story to be executed well. Nicholas Sparks is an artist who doesn't care about conventional things. He would think outside of the box and give you a story that would teach you loads of lessons about life and love.
It's a female romantic fantasy. For men we like die hard and the fifth element.

Hello, very good article. I agree with you, now there are many more authors (women) who write romantic stories, first: maybe it's because of our advances in terms of culture (each time are women who feel free to write what they like) and secondly as you say, most romantic novels are consumed by women. I include myself, I love a good plot of romance but I also do not like it to be excessively sweet, however we are not talking about that, we are talking about Nicholas Sparks, and it is true I think he has become an author that time is not going against. I just read a story about him: A walk to remember, and basically I saw the movie first when I was very young and when I was about 18 years old and a tremendous desire to read many books, I remembered the movie I saw it and then I continued with the book The impressive result.
I also saw The Notebook, which is undoubtedly one of the most romantic movies that exist and now I really want to see The Best Of Me. And also read more about this author.
