WHINK (What's Happening In Korea) Issue 1

in #kr7 years ago (edited)

Issue 1 of WHINK (한국어 아래)

I've decided to start a daily piece about the happenings in South Korea. I will try to look at all sorts of different topics and remain impartial in my writing. I hope to give the foreign community a little bit more in depth look at what life is really like in South Korea and not what Western media would have you believe. I will also try and translate each post into Korean using my elementary level Korean and therefore there will be many mistakes (please don't judge). Once this becomes a little more developed I wold like to have a Korean translate the post in return for a percentage of the SBD produced. If you are a Korean with the ability to translate and are interested in making some extra SBD, please contact me.

So, without further ado, I bring you issue 1 of WHINK

The North Korea Saga

It seems like the never ending threat of war between the two Koreas is as strong as ever, with leaders of many nations concerned over the recent NK nuclear test. Russian leader Vladimir Putin feels that this crisis could turn into a global catastrophe as tensions are escalating on the peninsula. What military weapons North Korea actually possesses remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure, they are becoming more powerful buy the day and it has many countries in the region concerned. You can read more here. What are your thoughts on this situation?

Violent Teens In Busan

Several middle school girls attacked a fellow classmate last week leaving the victim badly beaten. The perpetrators used glass bottles and other sharp objects and the case is under investigation. The news went viral and many people are calling for stricter punishment towards juvenile delinquents. More on the story can be found here

DACA Scrapped

After news broke yesterday of Trump cancelling the DACA Agreement(Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) many korean who illegally reside in the USA are at risk of deportation. Korea ranks 6th on a list of nations with illegal immigrants residing in the US with Mexico being number 1. However, as per the laws laid out in the DACA agreement, many Koreans would not be at risk of deportation because they are over the age limit. More on the story here

Alright, that's it for issue 1, hope you enjoyed the first post, comments and feedback are always welcome.

"I hope to give the foreign community a little bit more in depth look at what life is really like in South Korea and not what Western media would have you believe."

Thanks for posting. I think it's always important to get news from various sources, especially people who have this perspective. Keep up the good work. I'll be looking out for the next WHINK post.

I feel blessed to live far away but I also feel for these citizens... thank you for sharing this post...

Yeah there is such a difference between the way North Koreans and South Koreans live, like totally diffferent worlds. Hopefully everything works out okay

I hope so too dear..

I feel for you right now my friend are you worried about the threat considering the neighbour is so close. Why would those teens do such a terrible thing sometimes this is a horrid world we live in thanks for posting.

I feel safe, but who knows what would happen. Yeah, it's sad about the teens. Teenage years are difficult times, different people react differently with their personal struggles

is a state of chaos, very ineresting times to put in mildly

Interesting indeed, will just have to wait and see how it all plays out

Very interesting to hear "news on the ground" from Korea. We get such a filtered version of news in the west. It would be good to pick up more real info from South Koreans of what they feel about the security situation. How do they react to what the US President says etc.

Yeah, like a lot of other countries, the people of South Korea aren't overly impressed with trump. Having said that though, they are overly worried about war either
