Things People Lose & Leave Behind
I've only been metal detecting for a few months.
It's really nice to get outdoors and walk along the beach early in the morning. I've never found anything "valuable", but I've found some curious or interesting things. Mostly loose change, to be honest. Sometimes there are foreign coins — to be expected in a popular tourist destination. I've found coins from Aruba, Canada, Russia, America, EU, UK, Trinidad, and others. There have been some older ones - 50s and 60s American coins. The oldest one I've found was not on a beach but in the backyard - 1826!
I also find a whole lot of trash. People leave a lot of trash on the beach, and I always put the trash into my pouch and throw it in the bin. Tonnes of bottle caps! I've decided to keep all the caps, though. I'd like to make something with them some day.
Over time I'm sure I'll find more interesting things....
Here's my little stash so far...
Here we have... a key, hair clips, tweezers, some locks, a latch, fish weights, some odd metal bits I have no idea what they are... and an 8Ball baggy which didn't come up on the detector I just picked it up :) I see them from time to time.
Canadian pin, misc earrings, two bullets (handgun and shotgun) and an old spoon
I'm not really sure what this is.. it seems a bit old.
And all the coins!
As you can see, sitting either in the sea or in the sand really does a number on these coins... They range from the 1950s to current. Some of them have probably been sitting in the sand for decades.
Not shown are the dollars and quarters which I keep separate in a jar :) Probably about $30 or $40 so far.
I really love it.
Like I said, nothing really valuable has ever come up but that's not why I do it. I'm not 100% sure why. It's fun, it's interesting, the potential to find cool stuff is there.. I'm going to keep doing it for a while!
Can I have back my missing stuff that you just found?
Sure let me just grab all the bottle caps together :)
People try that stuff all the time when they pass me on the beach lol
What did you say you paid for that metal detector? 😊
Great collection!
Would love to see you try to do something like this with the cooler peices or all the different coins.
I have trouble keeping earrings in my ear.
Those coins looks interesting. Can explore cleaning it up Coke. I heard Coke can do something to them. After that, you can try listing and selling with @steemshop
Don't try cleaning anything you think may have historical or numismatic value!!!
They're worth more $$ in their current state, even if they look crappy!
If you're unsure, find a local coin dealer and take them in for an appraisal / valuation. You never know, you may just uncover an old relic worth a small fortune!
Thanks for the advice.
Looks like fun! I like the collection you have going there and all of the unique coins. You never know what you are going to turn up next.
I've always wanted to try this out. Looks like fun, and you could just find something of real value!
Just don't try cleaning any coins you think may be worth anything historically or numismatically, you'll potentially strip $$$$ away, as well as grime.
If you find something you think may be worth something, find a local coin dealer and have it appraised BEFORE you try cleaning it!!
I always wanted to do this. We have so many tourists in my island, heck, I have a real chance finding something valuable.
Interesting, I was on the beach a few weeks back and thought to myself "I wonder what I could find with a metal detector" I guess the answer is...a lot of coin lol
