Hello dear steemian, today i wanna explain something being unclear to increase a reader perception, yesterday i posted about spring base water purification.
In this opportunity i will explain deeply about filtration related base on water purification. Yesterday i discuss how villager filtrate the water to get clean water, the water they use for take bath and washing, not to drink. Usually, the villager drink the water after water have cooked. that is best way for them to avoid microorganism. In the last post there was a question, "Is it true that tap water comes directly from the wastewater treatment plant?", I answer that depend on manufacturing company, Therefore, i will share a bit of my experience, knowledge and what i done in Water Treatment Manufacturing.
Where is Source Water Come From ?
My experience in Water Treatment Manufacture, This company produces the drinking water, the source of water processed here comes from Peusangan river, but the river water in water treatment reservoir has been cleared once by other company (PIM, PT), it mean the water will produce for drinking here is a water that have been cleaning, not a cloudy water, but if we look at Peusangan river, the water still cloudy, However, the first processing done by PT PIM, They purify the water only bathroom and washing, in the sense the water has not reach yet for hygiene water. The water from PIM, PT drained directly into reservoir of drinking water company. Here, the further processing done, so the water deserves to be drinking.
How Hygiene Water Produced ?
To make the readers easier to understand, I attach a flowsheet from PT, IMA Montaz, I will explain the water flow in flowsheet bellow.
As I have explained above, the water in the reservoir was clean water, the advanced process of water treatment process to be feasible for drinking water based on SNI. All codes in the picture you can see at the lower left corner. The water in the reservoir flowed into an E-3 tank or gravel tank that serve to decrease turbidity and suspended substances and can to reduce colloids. From the gravel tank the water pumped to Activated Carbon Tank 1 (E-4) and Activated Carbon Tank 2 (E-5), with the intention of impurities substances such as organic ingredients, disinfectants, and eliminate odors and flavors caused by organic compounds that can be absorbed by Activated Carbon. Then, the water flows into Accumulator Tank (E-7) and exits to the ultra filtration tank (E-8,E-9), Ultrafiltration uses membranes with pore size smaller than 0.1 microns and used to exclude bactery (microorganism), colloids, and organic compounds have large molecules. The water from exist from ultrafiltration (E-8 and E-9) flows toward Ultraviolet device (E-10), this is of disinfection process of drinking water by ultraviolet (UV). The electromagnetic waves 200 nm - 300 nm wavelengths can kill bacteria and spores. The water exist from UV it will pass through ozone tank (E-11), Then it mixed with ozone in (E-12) then flowed into tank accumulator.
What Next ?
From accumulator the water will be distribute to Rinser and Filler, the water use for rinser will pass through 5 micron of MF and this water used to wash bottle and cap. The water for Filler will pass through 5 micron of MF (Micro Filter) and pass second ultraviolet (UV) equipment as bacteria killing and neutralize ozone. Furthermore, The water used to fill gallons, bottles and cups in the Sterile Room. In the sterile room, the water filled into the glass and bottle by operator, in this room the operator must to wear a mask, because the ozone effect of water interfere in breathing. I can only stay in this room about 30 minutes, and every 30 minutes I get out of this room to get fresh air.

The water in water treatment that will use for drinking water, it should be processed further as i described above, While people in rural areas, they purify the water only for washing and bathing, if they wanna use for drinking water, they must cook it first. The drinking water manufactured in water treatment company must be fulfill SNI requirements.

Excellent information. I used a similar design for a backwash filtration system. The minor problem with modern filtration plants is that the drugs humans take like anti-depressants are still present in small quantities in the drinking water.
