Indian Mathematics

Indian mathematics emerged in the Indian subcontinent from 1200 BCE until the end of the 18th century, after which Indian mathematicians were directly part of the development of global mathematics.
In the classical period of Indian mathematics (400 CE to 1600 CE), important contributions were made by scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Mahāvīra, Bhaskara II, Madhava of Sangamagrama and Nilakantha Somayaji.
These mathematical concepts were transmitted to the Middle East, China, and Europe and led to further developments that now form the foundations of many areas of mathematics.
The "Arabic Number System" was not created by an Arab!

The Place Value System and Decimal System was created by Indian scholars in India around 100 B.C.
Then the number system was brought to the rest of the world by the Arabs.

Thankfully, more schools are giving India credit for the number system by calling it the "Hindu-Arabic Numerical System".

Modern Trigonometry
Taking the foundations laid down by Hipparchus, Menelaus, and Ptolomy, Indian mathematicians created formalized modern trigonometry (i.e., defining the sine and cosine).

Zero - What a Concept!

Although Sumerians, Babylonians and Mayans had an understanding of "nothing numbers", these were simply "blank spaces on cuneiform" or crude place-holders.
The modern concept of zero as a number and its significance in the decimal system was the brainchild of an ancient Indian mathematician named Aryabhatta.

Value of Pi

The value of pi was first calculated by Budhayana, & he explained the concept of what is now known as the Pythagorean Theorem.
British scholars in 1999 officially published that Budhayan's works date back to the 6th Century, which is long before the European mathematicians.
Pythagoras

The famous Pythagorean theorem is explained several centuries before in the shulva sutras of the Vedas.
It is believed that the much travelled Pythagoras was a student at the takshashila university in undivided india and he carried with him the knowledge of mathematics to the western world.

Believing that school was too boring, he dropped out of High School early; only to earn an AA, BS and MBA in less than 4 years much later in life – while working full-time as a Navy/Marine Corps Medic.
In spite of a fear of heights and deep water, he performed high altitude, free-fall parachute jumps and hazardous diving ops in deep, open ocean water.
After 24 years of active duty, he retired in Asia.

Hope India will contribute more useful math for blockchain technology in future.
Not just maths but India's contributions to the field of science is huge. There are still unknown STEM hidden in ancient Indian scriptures. I'm proud to have a collection of few of those wonderful inventions. Nice article.
