More Strategies for Making Great Conversation
If you want to make a business relationship with a person, it is very important that you take the time and effort to understand the person's needs and expectations. The art of conversation goes beyond mere understanding of language. It takes a keen sense of self and the ability to connect with someone on a deeper level. This is where the art comes in. If you want to be someone who makes people feel good, you have to make a genuine effort to understand them. There are many more subtle tips you can use to make a lasting impression and develop a better listening practice.
Practice makes perfect - When you're talking with someone, you should think about how you sound and what you're saying. This will help to enhance your confidence level, which in turn helps to improve your conversation skills. It's not only the volume of what you say that matters, but how you say it. Being aware of your body language, facial expressions and inflection can be extremely useful in improving your verbal skills.
Practice with the people you are talking to - Don't keep asking the same questions over again. Try to ask different questions to different people, such as "What's your favourite colour?" or "How's the weather up?"
Use humor - Humour can make a difficult situation easier to solve. You don't have to always use this tactic in your conversations, but it can certainly help to diffuse tense situations and open up conversation. When people are under pressure, and they're not sure what to do, they often turn to humor to make themselves light and comfortable.
Develop the relationship - One of the most important strategies for making great conversation is building a relationship with the other person. Listen carefully to what they have to say, and then share in their interests. It may sound cliche, but you will soon notice that the more you engage in meaningful conversations with another person, the more they will return the favour. A positive relationship will make them feel comfortable enough to open up to you, and you'll be able to easily get them to open up to you in turn.
Practice, and practice some more - As you continue to practice, you will become more skilled at making connections. When people are uncomfortable with you, it's easy to revert back to old habits. If you keep working at improving your conversation skills, you will be able to easily improve your interactions with others. Remember that if you want to be a good listener, you need to hear first.
