STEEMIT.com , Variety Is The Spice Of Life

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Week two here on Steemit.com and I’m still looking at what all and who all is doing what here.

My wife seems to think that she can achieve what she wanted to achieve on the social site she was on before, called Twitter, good luck to her!

My eldest son is different all together, he sees the potential, but his approach is a lot milder, very cool, calm and collective.

Me, well, I guess I’m just having fun here, and making a few cents doing so. No, seriously, I can see how I am somehow getting back into the “Facebook posting” type of thing, which I missed as I haven’t been on that social network for a very long time (I already wrote about that in “introducemyself”). I still like the Twitter approach to communicating, keeping things sweet and short (or vice versa).

Which leads me to the heart and soul of this post.

There are a bunch of different social networking sites out there.
Rather than list them all here, here’s the link, if you wish to see them all.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites

social_media sites.jpg

Each of these sites, uses a platform that fulfils the sites requirements and the written as well as the unwritten rules of each site are set up so as to abide by the platforms limitations.

Now, each social site has a set pattern of behaviour, even the Facebookers have somewhat conformed and the “mobs” on that social site tend to set the trends. Usual behavioural issues of any society I guess. Mobs always seem to think the strength comes with numbers, maybe so in practice, but the hypocrisy too often comes out of the fact that most of the mobsters, that is the mob leaders in particular claim to be “tolerant, understanding and open to differences and people individuality”.

Hmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!

Note/Suggestion: Grab a cuppa because you might want to sit back and think about the things I am going to mention.

Shall Steemit.com one day go down that same road?

I dare say that if ever, this could very well be the first social network site that actually doesn’t have that “mob” attitude.

WHY?

Well, no body with half a brain in their skull wants to have issues with people when making money is one of the key driving factors and in many cases the one and only goal that is being chased, seeked here.

Apart from that!

WHY JUDGE?

Why look at individuals from different sites in any different way when Steemit.com is actually trying to get as many different people as possible to get onboard.

OK, maybe Steemit needs to look into what has happened on some sites, like for example LinkedIn, (again, I mentioned this in my introduceyourself post). Maybe Steemit shall need to find a way to ensure that the “mobs” don’t take over. That the cultural aspect to some societies and their differences in morals do not affect the overall project as such. Maybe!!!!! Again, money is involved and an open market is the best market for all international projects.

That doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be some sort of regulations to save this social site from the “mobs”.
I am not talking about Whales, Dolphins, Minnows or tadpoles for that matter, nor sharks... just to ensure that none of the Steemit Whales out there looks at me as a potential “whaler”. No, one would need to read over my introducemyself post to see where I’m coming from on this one, so here is a link:

PS. The post is now over 7 days old, so I am not sticking it up here to get peoples upvotes on it, one of my mates that I spoke to about this topic and at the mention of a post he said “stick all your old posts on to the post, get more votes”.... yes, but that is not my goal here on this post and as it is over 7 days old the sheer idea is not applicable.

To continue now,
my points are quite simple:

1.- Variety is the spice of life, as far as socialnetworking/habbits/approaches go!
So there should be no “this isn’t Twitter, we don’t do things here like the way they are done on Twitter.... bla ... bla... BS... BS.. BS....”

No, this isn’t Twitter, no this isn’t Facebook, no this isn’t any of the other sites listed in the earlier attached link.

THIS IS STEEMIT.

The first social networking site to ban any and all non tolerant behaviour as far as communications go!

FREEDOM OF SPEECH!

As too often mentioned in courts of law!
As most democratic constitutions stipulate.
As the international Human Rights demand!

And ...

2.- Ensuring that this social network doesn’t become a victim to the those who have to date ruined it for so many people out there on other social networking sites.

There, that is basically it.

That is what I see here now, and these are my only 2 concerns that I have not seen anyone address so far. Or should I say, have not seen anyone out there who may see these topics as serious issues as far as the future of this community and project go.

Any and all thoughts should be slept over as with any strategic decisions that do not need to be rushed.
All thoughts and perceptions should be noted somewhere and unlike those people "with a hidden agenda" I am just a "tadpole" enjoying the wonders of this nice non polluted pond I am swimming in!

Til the next time,

Cheers!

Sort:

I just like steemit for the idea that advertisers don't get to dictate what is published, rather the consumers support good content and that my vote has visible impact meager as it is, better now with the new system

Ohhhh yeah, that is definitely the case.

My point exactly as far as the general gist of things goes, and I hope it stays that way.

How LinkedIn failed:

"Over the last year, contempt for LinkedIn became a bona fide cultural phenomenon. The company’s signature catchphrase — "Hi, I’d like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn" — was posited, plausibly, as the perfect universal entry for The New Yorker’s long-running cartoon caption contest. LinkedIn also admitted that hackers had made off with 100 million email and (hashed) password combinations from its servers, which led to a number of high-profile Twitter accounts being compromised.

Meanwhile the company’s aggressive email tactics, which needlessly opted users in to receiving multiple messages every day, resulted in a $13 million settlement last year......"

"........LinkedIn held true to its vision, built a very smart team, and used a dizzying array of growth hacks until it became ubiquitous. Today it has 433 million registered members, a quarter of whom visit it each month......."

".........It loomed large but has never been essential, focusing on its paying customers at the expense of the users who make it valuable in the first place. The company makes grandiose claims about creating economic opportunity — CEO Jeff Weiner said this week that LinkedIn will be the answer for workers who lose their jobs to robots. But in practice it’s not much more than a way for white-collar workers to field occasional inquiries from recruiters and vendors who pay dearly for the privilege. Or, viewed from an acquirer’s perspective, a rich trove of data that would be better put to other uses........"

Overloaded and flooded by those who are not worth employing and/or who are destroying/underbidding the value and quality of all services offered on the free market.

So there you have it, a little more to it, but essentially you have hit the nail on the head.

I shall not mention other sites as they too are failing drastically, as the vision set has been forgotten and the greed factor has taken over. "Anything for a quick buck".
