What are the objectives of this task?

  • Newbies should have knowledge about what "proof of brain" means.
  • Newbies should understand the basic knowledge of producing original, quality content.
  • Newbies should understand and have key knowledge about Steemit community etiquette.

What is expected from Steemit users to post?

Steeemit is a platform that is open to hosting content from users that complies with the terms of service of the Steemit platform. The platform is open to content which could be memes, songs, blog posts, videos, photos, and many more. However, being creative should be a watchword without plagiarism.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism can be explained as an act of presenting someone else's idea, text, or any creative work if it is original without giving credit to the real owner or permission.

Types of Plagiarism

Self-Plagiarism
Self-plagiarism occurs when an author or creative presents an already published work as if it were new. This is when creatives recycle their content, making it seem like a newly written or created piece of content.

Mosaic plagiarism
This type of plagiarism involves creating or taking parts of different published works and making them blend together as a newly published work. The plagiariser takes different parts of different authors' work and creates a new piece from them.

Clone Plagiarism
Clone plagiarism is a type of plagiarism where the person or plagiarized takes or presents someone else's published work without any editing or giving credit to the author.

How to Avoid Plagiarism

This is when the citation comes in. There are instances where you want to convey a thought or cite example. You might need to use an already published work to do this, but taking an already published work to convey this thought could be deemed plagiarism if the source is not given credit by citing his/her source.

When you know that citing your source could prevent you from being perceived as a plagiarist, then the question of how do I cite my source, what is citation, and types of citation comes into play.

Why Do Steem users need to cite their sources?

Having understood that creating or posting original content is important on the Steemit platform, creating plagiarised or copied content invalidates the originality of your content.

If you must create content that is original, any idea that is not originally yours needs to be known, and to identify ideas that are not originally yours, you need to cite the source you got them from.

Not citing sources makes it seem as though you have the idea, and this makes your content not authentic anymore.

How to cite the source

Citing your source allows you to clearly understand how your content is always original without misleading your content consumer. However, the big question that needs to be answered is how do I cite sources? But to begin with, let's understand what a citation is.

What is a citation?

Citation simply describe making reference to your source or giving credit after you must have used a content from an already published one.

When citing the source of content, after putting out the content, you should make it known that it is gotten from this place, and putting a link to where it was gotten from is needed.

Purposes of citation.

  • Citation helps to support intellectual intelligence and avoid plagiarism.

  • It is beneficial to attribute works or contents that are not original to the supposed source.

  • It also helps readers to understand better the validity of the material used.

Types of Citation.

Type 1

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.” - Albert Einstein cite

Type 2

Education is one thing that stays after one has forgotten what has been learnt in school according to Albert Einstein. cite

The first cited example is quoted because it is copied and pasted without any alteration. While for the second, it is unquoted because it is paraphrased.
