B&W PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST WEEK #099 - Grass over watersteemCreated with Sketch.

in WORLD OF XPILAR2 years ago

People often confuse such coastal-aquatic plants as reed (Scirpus), cattail (Týpha) and Phragmites (in English it is also called "reed", and in Russian there is the word "trostnik"). I also get confused sometimes, but here in the photo, I think it's just tall grass. The shore in this place is low, but reinforced with granite, so this plant does not touch the water in any way. I took this photo in the summer of 2021 on an Unnamed island in the middle of the Krestovka River in St. Petersburg. Not so long ago, there was a copy of the statue "Girl with a Paddle" by the sculptor Ivan Shadr on the island. I photographed it a couple of years ago, but I couldn't find the pictures in my archive. So I went there to take new photos, and here I am... and there is no statue. As it turned out, almost every month it had to be restored: vandals often drew something or wrote on it, tried to break off parts of the statue. In the end, in 2021, the statue was taken away for another restoration, and it was decided not to return it to its former place...
