Desierto de Atacama, Chile
Unexpected effect of climate change in Chile.
Chile's Atacama desert, the world's most arid, has been covered with flowers in recent days. That after, in April and May, it was flooded by a river out of the quake looking for rain.
The "desierto florido" phenomenon normally takes place only once every 5 or even 7 years, but now it has been repeated only after 2 years.
Tourists, as well as researchers, from around the world are visiting the Copiapo region of Atacama, attracted by the bizarre phenomenon.
Botanists estimate that there are about 200 plant species in the desert and hopes that even more will emerge in the coming days.
