OWL Photography
Burrowing Owl - Arthene cunicularia - Lechucita Vizcachera
It is a bird of prey very common in the rural area where I live, Mar del Plata Argentina.
With his big yellow eyes he looks at the walker from a pole near his cave.
Due to its diurnal habits and its wide distribution it is undoubtedly the best known owl. Common inhabitant of our pampa, its distribution area covers open areas of all America, being also the only owl with cavícolas habits. Its specific name "cunicularia" refers to this custom.
It is friendly and easy to photograph.
