Triumph - An Original Poem

in #poem9 years ago

The day dawns, the sun rises
setting in motion
what would be
the last day of your life.

It all leads up to this,
the final battle.

From the overture to the interlude
all your struggle builds upto this crescendo.

It's just another normal day
but for you it's something more
it's your judgement day,
your ultimate finale.

But the sun still rises,
the birds still chirp
the winds still moan
and the earth still moves.

It's kill or be killed,
it's the survival of the fittest.

It's the one thing that matters the most
because revenge is a dish best served cold.

The stage sets, and the people hide
leaving you and him in the wake of the tide.

The tide of death and destruction
from which only one can escape,
for him the world would not end in gray
for the ultimo hombre.

And in the blink of an eye,
the music diminuendos.

With a coldness in your heart,
and a sweatiness in your hand,
you fall to the ground,
but you have won in a no man's land.

Against all odds you have triumphed,
but have paid the ultimate price.

For in frontier life,
there is no last man standing.

It's only the last breath taken,
and this time, you get to do it.

The blood gushes through your chest,
resigned to your fate,
you light a cigarette and hold it to your lips,
and take one last dose of calm and happiness
before you drift off into that dark desert, far away.
