THE HOSPITAL GIST: THE HARVEST OF BODY ORGANS

I had a busy schedule today so it was impossible for me to visit any hospital around for gist. While I was going through some Whaleshares posts, I remembered an incidence years ago when I had typhoid and was hospitalised.

I used to think I was an alien because I never get sick. Common headache felt like a joke to me when people around me complained about it. Three years ago, I fell seriously ill for the first time. I thought it was malaria so I went to the pharmacy store to get anti-malaria drugs. My condition got worse and I had to visit this terrible clinic.

They conducted test and it was discovered I had chronic typhoid fever. The doctor told me I was lucky because wrong self-medication kills people. He wrote down something on his note and gave to a nurse, I must say that doctors have the worst handwriting in this world. Anyway, I was hospitalised and placed on drip. This particular nurse's face was as solid as rock and she injected me mercilessly. I wished I had the strength to punch her face, I would have. I slept off after the painful injection.

I woke up hours later, the drip was coming out so slow and I had to open the tap so it would flow faster. During ward round, the nurse on night duty came to my bed. She looked at the drip:

"Did you tamper with the drip Sir?" She asked. I looked at her and fear gripped me. Her face was harder than the previous nurse.

"Who employed these mean-looking nurses." I thought. "I didn't touch it." I replied her.

She didn't argue and adjusted the drip to slow pace again. She left after doing her medical jargons. I loosened the tap minutes after she left. The drip finished much more later and almost sucked my blood. I quickly removed the needle from my skin. The time was around 6 in the morning.

I wondered why the nurse has not come to check up on me, it felt odd so I stood up. As I came out of the ward to find the nurse or doctor on duty, I saw three doctors that entered a room. It felt suspicious so I followed them. I put my ear on the door and this is what I heard:

Doctor 1: Which body organs do you have in the cooler?

Doctor 2: I have 2 kidneys and 1 heart. What about you Doctor Mark?

Doctor Mark: I have just 1 kidney. The woman's other kidney is bad.

Doctor 1: This is small, we need more kidneys before we can sell. Go out and find more please.

I don't know whether it is my adrenaline or the fear of losing my kidneys, I ran as fast as my weak body could carry me. The security man tried to stop me but I pushed him so hard out of my way. Don't laugh at me. If it was you, will you wait?

Months later, the hospital was closed down by the government. The police discovered they were harvesting body organs and selling at the black market. They were all jailed and it felt good to me.

The first lesson here is that we should stop self-medication, it is wrong. Most people have died because of this. Also, we should be vigilant and careful when hospitalised. There are so many evil in the world these days and many illegal things happen in the hospital till now. If someone you know undergo surgical operation, make sure he/she does body scan after to check for complete organs. Most of the harvest of organs happen during surgery.
