POLITICAL NONSENSE

He climbed on the podium with so much confidence and pride. His traditional attire can be compared to the king of the commodity but he has his support so he was king at the moment. He stared at the crowd with so much joy, this is the biggest achievement he has had since he became a politician. The people looked up at him, they have seen his posters everywhere. His innocent and young face convinced them he was their messiah and that was why they left their workplaces for the market square to listen to him.

He held the microphone and eventually spoke:

I greet you my people. I have come here not as a future leader but a representative of this community at the federal arm of government. I have listened to all your cries and this is the time to wipe them off.

The whole community shouted with so much joy. They lifted up his banner with so much excitement. He directed them to stop and continued.

For so many years, the past representatives have come here to lie and deceive us. They have done nothing to help us. No good roads, no stable electricity, no good drinking water, poverty is everywhere yet they are in money where they have. They have collected the money meant for us and swindled everything. They will soon come back here with their empty promises but this is the time to tell them, enough is enough. We are not fools, we can’t be bought, we are the leaders of tomorrow.

The crowd went wild as they cheered his name. The youth leader asked them to stop and initiated the name “messiah” as everyone joined to call him the name. Messiah! Messiah!! Messiah!!! He was very happy and moved to tears for the exclusive show of love.

If you call me the messiah, you are right because if you vote for me. I will make sure there is stable light, good roads and drinking water in this community. I will employ the youths by bringing foreign investors to the land. We have the highest number of Timber here, it is high time we started using them to bring in money for this land.

He continued with so many promises and assurance to the people. Even his enemies were convinced he was the right man to represent them. The other candidates came in for campaigns and people rarely came out to listen to them.

He won the election by a large margin. On the day of his swearing-in, there was a big feast for the people. There were a lot to eat and drink with so many activities to entertain his people. They believed he was the right man for the job.

It has been over 3 years since Senator James was sworn in and they have not seen him around. He has not fulfilled ONE single promise and the community watched from afar. They have been lied to once again by another eloquent politician. The youths gathered for a meeting that lasted for hours and came up with a decision that may make/mar the community. The king and his chiefs were left out of the emergency meeting.

It was the year for another election and James came around for campaign. He wanted to be re-elected as a senator and came to seek for their support once more. He came in with a truck full of food items to give out to his people. The crowd gathered once again to listen to him, he was happy to see them come out. He climbed the podium to speak, he smiled as he adjusted himself then the youth leader whistled. The whole community left the market square. It remained just the king, his chiefs and James'spolitical friends. He was surprised and embarrassed and before he could move, he heard a loud blast. The food truck have been burnt down by the raging youths. He left the community as fast as he could. That was the end of his political career.
