Nazare - Open Season for Monster Waves!

Nazaré is a town and a municipality in subregion Oeste and Leiria District, in Portugal. It is one of the most popular seaside resorts in the Silver Coast/Costa de Prata. It is also home to one of the worlds biggest rideable waves! People are only just beginning to wake up to the potential of Nazaré. A particularly deep water channel points directly at the beach from the the open sea that results in the wave being funnelled into a huge, heavy and hollow, "A" frame shaped beach break, only for the seriously brave!
        I just checked magicseaweed surf report for Nazare - it's only 3 to 4 foot at the moment ... but it will be 10 to 20 feet next week! The surf season is just starting properly for Nazare as it relies on the large swells that usually start to occur in September/October through to April.

        

The biggest wave ever ridden was surfed by Hawaiian resident Garrett McNamara. Garret, surfed the record-breaking giant wave at Nazaré back in November 2011. Witness that historic and awesome feat in the video below.
