Hitchens VS. Hitchens

The God debate is the most debated topic ever. At least that's what it seems. Tons of people know who Christopher Hitchens is because he was very passionately against the idea of there being a God and he was popular. In fact his debates and written works are still circulating in mass although he passed away some years ago. But I had no clue he had a brother. I honestly don't think most people who know him knows he has a brother. His brother is Peter Hitchens and ironically he happens to be a theist. I just wanted to share a bit in regards to the two.

When it comes to topics or discussions such as the existence of God my goal is to always find where the truth is. I believe the truth about if there is or isn't a God can be known. Me personally I believe God does exist but I am always open to hearing other people's arguments against his existence. I hope you are also on some kind of journey to find absolute truth. It always amazes me that there is still so much to learn about our world. Much love.

Are you familiar with Christopher Hitchens and did you know he had a brother?

There is a DVD called "The Star of Bethlehem" that you would find very interesting. Gives astronomical evidence for Jesus. It is a fascinating show.

I have long heard about this man and had no idea that he has a brother!
The debate about God is a big topic. Science has made a big step but there are things that science can not explain. That is, there are things that do not lend themselves to scientific analysis.
Therefore, such a topic will always be "hotly" discussed in society. There will always be those who believe and those who deny.

Are you familiar with Christopher Hitchens and did you know he had a brother?

Actually I heard only about him via Web site. Don't see via live telecast. I trust only Buddhism theory. Don't follow other one. But I respect all religions. Every religions has same process.

The topic on the existence of God or not is one that sometimes leads to conflicts.. Lol

Well as for me... I strongly believe in the existence of God. So many things in life cannot be explained by "just science". Definitely, there is a superior being somewhere controlling the world as a whole...

Many think science has all the answers but we know some things cannot be explained by science at all. Many scientists done even know what energy really is.

Hahhaaaa... That just made me laugh...

I just sincerely hope we eventually know what the real truth is and accept it for what it is.. There is definitely a God somewhere

"Science doesn't claim to have all the answers. If it had all the answers, science would stop."

On the other hand, many religions claim to have all the answers.

The debate about the existence of God has been on for a while, and aside that there is also the debate of which of the "gods" is the God. Also of beliefs are out there about the creation and existence of God. And each religion claims supreme, that is each religion recognizes the existence of "lesser gods" but claims to have the "Main God". And in discussing the God topic alot of people have gone to war and alot of people still do till now. Although am a big believer in the existence of God, the way people chose to worship him is what i question atimes. What guides our moral compass?

Good points. Because we have a moral compass it is very reasonable to believe we we created by a much more intelligent being that gave us that moral compass.

Exactly, now the debate should be on which religion serves the real God?

Well that's also not hard to debate either. There are two key points to discuss in a debate like that.

#1: What evidence (historical, geographical, eyewitness accounts, miracles, etc.) is there to support which God

#2: Jesus claimed that he was the only path to know God and belief in Him means you serve the True God. The test for this case is to see if Jesus was actually who he claimed to be and also to look at the evidence for him resurrecting from the dead.

Well, i dont think there is any evidence of jesus resurrection from the dead. All we have are details from the bible based on eye witness accounts. If Jesus had indeed woken from the dead has he had claimed before crucifixion then its logical that he would have shown himself to the people to prove them all wrong not just the disciples

The key is the eyewitness accounts though. It would be one thing to say he resurrected without anyone ever having seen him afterwards but to have roughly 500 eyewitnesses says something. Also note that there were roman soldiers guarding the tomb. They fell asleep. This was punishable by death for them to do that.

I think what you may be getting at is the validity of the Bible's claim about his resurrection. What do you think?

Yes thats what am getting at. Based on the claim of the bible, and bible alone is what the foundation of the resurrection is based on

Oh ok I see. Well it's also a good idea to test the validity of the the Bible itself to see if it is actually the absolute truth it claims to be. God says his word is the truth and is perfect in essence. The key too is to test if the Bible can stand on it's own.

yeah funny how trying to reduce belief and be more "real" is one of the slipperiest slopes into an even bigger delusion.

funny how laughing at it is probably the closest I ever came to getting it
thats what I loved about the late Alan Watts

What makes something real or not?

*That is amazing!!............
