Wondering as he wandered

A freewrite prompted by the following image (Image by @the.artist-98.) :

He knew he would be okay. Or at least, he hoped. He wanted to think that the light that shined his way was the proper light, the one he must follow, but still, sometimes he wondered.
What if...What if he was on the wrong path altogether, and would very soon end up in some dark, forsaken corner, where he wasn't supposed to be in the first place? Well, how do you know you're not supposed to be there, he asked himself. If that's where you arrive, maybe that's where you're supposed to arrive. It's where the light takes you and the light is not wrong. You may not agree with the light's decision, but it is just, nonetheless.

He walked. He hated his shirt, it stuck to his chest and to his armpits and he couldn't stop thinking about the stickiness of his armpits. If only Taylor could see him now – Taylor who had always made fun of him for being such a fancy boy, so clean. As if being clean is a sin, or something. I got dirty.
He longed to take it off, to wash, to be able ot take a long bath. But he could not. Because his existence now was only darkness. All the rooms he traveled were pitch-black, except for the blue light. He hated it, he'd always hated the dark. And now, he was stuck with the two things he despised most – filth and darkness.

He shivered at the thought and clutched his flashlight tighter. The blue light showed his way down, through the dark.
