Effective minimum wage in America?
Some time ago, I wondered what percent of Americans make the minimum wage. I noted existence of local and state minimums make the question tricky. Thankfully, some economists have made that calculation.
There are about 6.6 million American who make one of the minimum wages out there. (2.2 are due to local minimums, 3.7 are state, and 0.7 is federal).
There are also about 155 million full and part time workers, or about 4% of workers make the minimum wage.
These numbers are also used to measure the effective minimum wage, or the average of minimum wages, weighed by the population of the jurisdiction. It's nearly $12 an hour.
@honeybee, $12/hour is effective price in my opinion. Some interesting Calculations for sure.
There are many countries where people don't have any access to job at all and sometimes it gives real pain when we see this kind of Imbalance in world.
Have a peaceful time ahead.
